But Ottawa rejected the project seven months after the Quebec government first nixed it. Poilievre said has a plan to change Quebec\u2019s mind: \u201cThere needs to be a permit from the Quebec government and that won\u2019t change. But I will work with the Quebec government to convince them that it is better to produce that energy here in Canada, instead of giving that market to Putin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>No carbon tax:<\/strong> <strong>Jean Charest<\/strong> released a climate plan Tuesday promising to repeal the consumer portion of the Liberal carbon tax, CP <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalnewswatch.com\/2022\/04\/26\/jean-charests-climate-plan-no-to-consumer-carbon-price-current-emissions-target\/#.YmfCxH7MKUk\">reports<\/a>.\u00a0He pledged to stick with an older target for reducing the country\u2019s greenhouse-gas emissions. The plan contains no details about how much it would cost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tax panned:<\/strong> Canada\u2019s environment commissioner says the Liberal carbon tax hits Indigenous communities and small businesses too hard, and takes it easy on the biggest emitters, CP <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalnewswatch.com\/2022\/04\/26\/carbon-pricing-too-hard-on-indigenous-groups-small-biz-too-weak-on-industry-audit-2\/#.YmgUE37MKUm\">reports<\/a>. Jerry DeMarco there is a \u201cbroad consensus\u201d among experts that carbon pricing is a critical tool for curbing greenhouse gas emissions but says Canada\u2019s system hasn\u2019t done enough to ensure the carbon price is <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lied fairly to the biggest industrial emitters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disgraceful?:<\/strong> Conservative MP <strong>Stephanie Kusie<\/strong> called an NDP-initiated study into the relationship between resource development and increased violence against Indigenous women and girls \u201cdisgraceful\u201d in a private email, CP <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-conservative-mp-calls-study-of-link-between-resource-development\/\">reports<\/a>. The email, about a committee hearing, was inadvertently sent to the federal NDP, who gave it to CP. Kusie said Tuesday said she found it disgraceful that the NDP\u2019s study \u201cfails to recognize the many positive contributions the natural resources sector has made to Indigenous communities and stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryerson now TMU:<\/strong> Ryerson University announced Tuesday that it\u00a0will now be called Toronto Metropolitan University, CP <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalnewswatch.com\/2022\/04\/26\/ryerson-university-changes-its-name-to-toronto-metropolitan-university\/#.YmhEavcXXjq.twitter\">reports<\/a>.\u00a0A statue of Egerton Ryerson on the university\u2019s campus was torn down by angry protesters last summer in response to the discovery of what are believed to be unmarked graves on the grounds of a former residential school in B.C.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bring a book:<\/strong> The <em>Post\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0<strong>Bryan Passifiume<\/strong> has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/canada\/need-to-renew-your-passport-bring-a-book-and-forget-the-time\">a good story<\/a> on the interminable delays at Passport Canada, where you best bring a book and show up <em>really<\/em> early.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While processing times sit at 10 days for regular, in-person applications and those requesting expedited pickups report getting their new documents in under a week, just getting into a passport office has become the challenge.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Louisiana north: Fran\u00e7ois Legault<\/strong> warned Tuesday that two new political parties would prefer Quebec be bilingual, which would make Quebec a new Louisiana, the <em>Gazette<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/news\/local-news\/new-political-parties-would-turn-quebec-into-a-new-louisiana-legault\">reports<\/a>:\u00a0 \u201cWhat these people want is to have a bilingual Quebec. If we want French to still be in place 50 and 100 years from now, we have to have Bill 96 and Bill 101.\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-another-new-quebec-party-launches-courting-federalists-anglophones\/\">Two new minority language rights parties<\/a>, the Canadian Party of Quebec and Mouvement Qu\u00e9bec, are hoping to field candidates in the fall <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> election.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Truck tax:<\/strong> In the <em>Star<\/em>,\u00a0<strong>Emma Teitel<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/opinion\/star-columnists\/2022\/04\/26\/no-trudeau-isnt-planning-to-tax-your-pickup-truck-but-he-should.html\">argues that<\/a> although the Liberals aren\u2019t planning a truck tax, they should.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So far most of the discussion around this \u201ctax\u201d has concerned itself with proving that it\u2019s non-existent. But maybe it should exist. In reality, we\u2019re all paying the price \u2014 in climate damage, health costs and urban road safety \u2014 for the popularity of these vehicles.
