As the suit dragged on into the new year, lawyers for the hitmakers issued a new filing in March aimed at singer Braindon Cooper, who has continued to allege \u201cNo Guidance\u201d illegally pulled from his 2016 song \u201cI Love Your Dress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/drake-dropped-chris-brown-no-guidance-lawsuit\/\"><em>Billboard, <\/em><\/a>it remains\u00a0unclear why Drizzy has since been dropped from the lawsuit. Neither side\u2019s attorneys returned requests for comment from the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for Drake and Chris have continued to claim that there was no way the pair could have heard Cooper\u2019s 2016 track, and argued the phrase \u201cyou got it\u201d was too obscure to warrant a legitimate copyright infringement suit. Cooper\u2019s lawyers pushed back at this argument in February, calling it \u201cegotistical and without any legal basis whatsoever\u201d to assume the platinum-selling pair hadn\u2019t heard Cooper\u2019s song.<\/p>\n<div class=\"p-message_pane_message__message_label c-message_kit__labels c-message_kit__labels--light\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter__right\" role=\"presentation\" data-qa=\"message_content\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__blocks c-message_kit__blocks--rich_text\">\n<div class=\"c-message__message_blocks c-message__message_blocks--rich_text\" data-qa=\"message-text\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer\" data-qa=\"block-kit-renderer\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper--first\">\n<div class=\"p-rich_text_block\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div class=\"p-rich_text_section\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Brown\u2019s lawyer, James G. Sammataro, rebutted in March by saying it was egotistical to assume his client had listened to all \u201c82 million songs on Spotify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not a close call,\u201d Sammataro wrote in the March filing obtained by\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/chris-brown-drake-no-guidance-copyright-lawsuit-1322215\/\"><em>Rolling Stone.<\/em><\/a>\u00a0\u201cPosting a song on the Internet \u2014 such that the song is 1 out of 82 million songs on Spotify or posted by one of Instagram\u2019s 1 billion users \u2014 and a one-time public performance do not constitute widespread dissemination as a matter of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo Guidance\u201d was off of Chris Brown\u2019s ninth album\u00a0<em>Indigo <\/em>and\u00a0dropped\u00a0on June 8, 2019. The single spent 46 weeks on the Billboard\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/hot-100\/\">Hot 100<\/a>, peaking at No. 5.
