Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared at a Dec. 29 party alongside hedge fund manager James Koutoulas, who is the chief promoter of the \u201cLet\u2019s Go Brandon\u201d cryptocurrency, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/madison-cawthorn-implicated-in-potential-insider-trading-scheme-experts-say\">according to The Washington Examiner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cLet\u2019s Go Brandon\u201d cryptocurrency is a digital meme coin inspired by the refrain mocking President Joe Biden. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLGB legends. \u2026 Tomorrow we go to the moon!\u201d Cawthorn wrote on his Instagram page in response to a photo posted on Koutoulas\u2019s account.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, the value of LGBCoin surged by 75% after NASCAR driver Brandon Brown announced that the cryptocurrency would be the main sponsor of his 2022 season.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"572\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/madison-cawthorn-james-koutoulas.jpg?w=572\" alt=\"Cawthorn was seen on social media alongside James Koutoulas, the chief promoter of the &quot;Let's Go Brandon&quot; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Series<\/a> season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Koutoulas was later named in a class-action lawsuit by investors who said they lost money after the value of LGBCoin crashed. Cawthorn is mentioned in the court filing as one of the celebrity endorsers of the meme coin.<\/p>\n<p>Experts told the Examiner that Cawthorn\u2019s social media posts suggest that he may have had advance knowledge of the sponsorship agreement with Brown.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Appearing to have slurred speech, Madison Cawthorn promoted the Let\u2019s Go Brandon themed crypto coin in order to \u201ctake the power of currency away from the government.\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/u0KhkFW9zl\">pic.twitter.com\/u0KhkFW9zl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 PatriotTakes \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@patriottakes) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/patriottakes\/status\/1505970526417735692?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 21, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The fact that Cawthorn has stated that he owns LGBCoin coupled with the social media posts could prompt a federal investigation into potential insider trading.<\/p>\n<p>A Department of Justice spokesperson declined to comment to The Post.<\/p>\n<p>The Post has also reached out to Cawthorn and the Securities and Exchange Commission.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p>Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette of the Project on Government Oversight told the Examiner: \u201cThis looks really, really bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis does look like a classic case of you got some insider information and acting on that information. And that\u2019s illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn has run afoul of the law in recent days.
