They expressed confidence that things would improve with a Biden administration, \u201cwhich is likely to bring a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>-based <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to containing the virus.\u201d An editorial in the highly regarded and allegedly apolitical New England Journal of Medicine, wrote that \u201cinappropriate government policies\u201d were responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands, labeled the Trump administration as \u201cdangerously incompetent\u201d and directed its readers (without mentioning his name) to vote for Biden who would set things right.<\/p>\n<p>Things didn\u2019t work out that way.<\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has just released data showing that 60,000 more Americans died in 2021 from COVID-19 than in 2020. The rate of COVID-19 associated deaths in 2021 rose 20% from 2020, despite the benefit of vaccines that only became widely available in 2021, multiple new therapies, more clinical experience resulting in improved treatment protocols, and a nationwide <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> mask mandate imposed im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely after Biden\u2019s inauguration at the beginning of 2021.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/1306729437.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"President Joe Biden\" class=\"wp-image-22061274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/1306729437.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/1306729437.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/1306729437.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>President Joe Biden implemented a national travel mask mandate immediately after being sworn in. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The data highlight the failure of policies promoted by experts, in and outside of government, to effectively address COVID. Many of the policies lacked an evidentiary basis. Some ineffective, harmful policies were prolonged for political reasons.<br \/>We now know that, throughout 2021, the pandemic was mishandled:<\/p>\n<p><strong>LOCKDOWNS FAILED: <\/strong>There was little or no evidence to support the lockdowns and school closures these experts urged the federal, state, and local governments to impose. Multiple studies have confirmed they were ineffective. A review and meta-analysis by Johns Hopkins researchers found that lockdowns had minimal impact on health, only reducing COVID-19 mortality by 0.2%.<\/p>\n<p>Governors of states like Florida, where lockdowns and mask mandates were lifted earlier than other places, were labeled \u201cmurderers.\u201d Yet a recent study by University of Chicago economist Casey Mulligan and colleagues shows that these governors were right. Comparing data from all 50 states, it found that limited lockdown states had smaller economic losses than states that stuck with them, but did not suffer worse health outcomes \u2014 age-adjusted mortality was unrelated to lockdown induced reductions in economic activity. The losses from these policies though, are real, and in the case of lost schooling, large and permanent.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/lockdown-getty-01.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22061347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/lockdown-getty-01.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/lockdown-getty-01.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/lockdown-getty-01.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>A study from Johns Hopkins University showed that lockdowns only reduced mortality by 0.2 percent. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>FOREVER MASKING WAS WRONG: <\/strong>Similarly, the CDC promulgated and clung to masking guidelines for schools and mandates for transportation. Both a pre-COVID systemic review and a more recent literature review found that mask-wearing makes little or no difference to the outcome of respiratory viral diseases such as COVID-19 and influenza. Sweden, which kept schools open without mask mandates, reported that teachers had no increased risk of severe COVID-19 infection compared to other occupations. A January 2021 review by CDC researchers in the Journal of the American Medical Association found little evidence of community transmission in schools, outside of indoor sports practices and competitions. Nevertheless, the administration, often at the behest of teachers\u2019 unions, continued to recommend masking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AND NYC STILL MASKS PRE-SCHOOLERS:<\/strong> Considering all the evidence, what will it take for politicians to finally free the last people in America masking: New York City pre-schoolers?<\/p>\n<p>Pre-schoolers have never been at great risk of severe COVID-19 or death.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/vaccinations-02.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"masked child\" class=\"wp-image-22061363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/vaccinations-02.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/vaccinations-02.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/vaccinations-02.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Sweden kept schools open without mask mandates and found that teachers had no greater risk of severe COVID-19 infection than those in other jobs. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MIXED MESSAGES:<\/strong> Dr. Anthony Fauci announced on Public Television Tuesday night that the country is \u201cout of the pandemic phase. Namely, we don\u2019t have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By that definition, we have been out of the pandemic for months. But that did not stop the CDC from extending its transportation mask mandate past its April 18 expiration date to May 3. When a federal district judge in Florida struck down the mandate on April 18 as unlawful, the CDC announced that the mandate was still necessary which prompted the Justice Department to appeal the ruling. But the failure of the DOJ to apply for a stay of the ruling while the appeal is pending confirms that the CDC knows extending the mandate is unnecessary. This is all about preserving the agency\u2019s institutional power.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IGNORING NATURAL IMMUNITY: <\/strong>Fauci also acknowledged CDC studies showing that by February of 2022 roughly 60% of the country, including 75% of kids 0-17, had been infected with COVID. He wasn\u2019t surprised by the number and conceded that natural immunity following infection and recovery is protective.<\/p>\n<p>But the administration was so fixated on increasing vaccination \u2014 possibly because candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris spent so much time undermining public confidence in the vaccines that were being developed during the Trump administration \u2014 that for most of 2021 it refused to acknowledge natural immunity. The fact that natural immunity confers protection that is as good or better than vaccination has been apparent for a long time. Tens of thousands of unvaccinated people have unnecessarily lost jobs or been forced to stay home from work or school that they could have safely attended.
