collected a pair of players who at times during the draft season were viewed as possible No. 1-overall picks.<\/p>\n<p>With edge Kayvon Thibodeaux and RT Evan Neal, Schoen took a leap toward making the Giants feared again one day.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere Up in Big Blue Heaven, the late, great Wellington Mara is reminding friends of the kind of team he forever yearned to field to unnerve the opponent: \u201cBuckle up your chinstraps, pally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thibodeaux, the big-city kid with the outsized personality from South Los Angeles with a chip the size of the Empire State Building on his 6-foot-4, 254-pound shoulders.<\/p>\n<p>Neal, the laid-back country boy from rural small town Okeechobee, Fla., who will help bookend LT Andrew Thomas keep predators from knocking the chip off Daniel Jones\u2019 shoulder after the Giants predictably declined exercising his fifth-year option.<\/p>\n<p>Thibodeaux: \u201cI\u2019m really competitive and I\u2019m hungry, and I feel like New York is a pinnacle of a dog-eat-dog world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neal, asked if he senses that Thibodeaux might be talking to him in practice: \u201cI really don\u2019t care whether he does, I\u2019m gonna talk with my shoulder pads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schoen was cool, calm and collected in his first time in the war-room hot seat.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" because in his view the pass rusher drop-off was steeper than the offensive tackle drop-off knowing that he would be able to choose from whichever two were left after the Panthers, who selected Ickey Ekwonu.<\/p>\n<p>Schoen and Daboll were comfortable enough with Thibodeaux to ignore the publicized and whispered misconceptions about him on the field and off. They dismissed the talk of Thibodeaux\u2019s hot-and-cold motor. Of his brand supposedly being more important to him than the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re getting a leader, they\u2019re getting a competitor, they\u2019re getting a guy who wants to win at any means,\u201d Thibodeaux said.<\/p>\n<p>Schoen and Thibodeaux seem like The Odd Couple, but they bonded after extensive meetings, over FaceTime as well as over Korean barbecue in Eugene, Ore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really got to know the kid maybe more than any player in this draft,\u201d Schoen said. \u201cLike the personality, and like the player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And in Daboll, Schoen has a head coach who knows how to handle big and unconventional personalities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like coaching good guys,\u201d Daboll said. \u201cWhen you\u2019re in the National Football League for 22 years, you come across a lot of different characters, and as long as they love football and they\u2019re a pro on and off the field \u2026 I have six kids, they all have different personalities, so that\u2019s the job of a coach too, to learn your players, what makes \u2019em tick, how to push \u2019em when they get need pushed, how to hug \u2019em when they need a hug. That won\u2019t be Strahan and Lawrence Taylor turning the corner and rushing the passer. But the Giants don\u2019t have to be laughingstocks in trench warfare anymore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey both have good size, good length,\u201d Daboll said. \u201cKayvon is quick off the ball, I think he has a wide variety of pass-rush moves, but he can also set an edge for us on our defense. \u2026 We envision Kayvon doing a lot of different things for us. And Evan \u2026 it takes a guy to go the long route to get to the quarterback.
