\n Attorney General<\/a> William Barr warned of a possible contested election if large-scale voting by mail is allowed this November and slammed lawmakers pushing the option as \u201cgrossly irresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barr said voting is one of the ways Americans have to resolve disputes and warned that in a politically divided country, elections have been close and could \u201cturn on one state. They turn on just a few districts.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have to have confidence in the outcome or we\u2019re going to have real problems in this country. And I think the people who want to experiment with different ways of voting right now, which are predictably \u2014 you know, can predictably create problems of integrity, are playing with fire and are grossly irresponsible,\u201d he told Mark Levin on Sunday on Fox News<\/a>\u2019 \u201cLife, Liberty & Levin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barr said he saw no potential problems with voting by mail in individual cases where a person can\u2019t get to the polls and they app<\/a>ly for a ballot.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the idea that you, without any request from the voter will mail out your voting list, all these thousands and thousands of ballots is scary, because most of those mailings go to a lot of addresses where the people no longer live. They\u2019re misdirected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I think they will create a situation \u2014 they could easily create a situation where there\u2019s going to be a contested election,\u201d Barr continued.<\/p>\n

President Trump has railed against voting by mail, and his re-election campaign and the Republican National Committee last week sued Nevada to block a bill that allows every registered voter to receive a mail-in ballot.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocrats know President Trump is gaining ground in Nevada, so they fully and fundamentally overhauled Nevada\u2019s election laws in a rushed 72-hour attempt to rig the election,\u201d Trump 2020 senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis said in a statement.<\/p>\n

But a week before, Trump gave his blessing to voters in Florida to cast ballots by mail.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you call it Vote by Mail or Absentee Voting, in Florida the election system is Safe and Secure, Tried and True,\u201d the president said in a tweet.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlorida\u2019s Voting system has been cleaned up (we defeated Democrats attempts at change), so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail! #MAGA,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Democrats have urged states to allow extensive voting by mail this election, they claim, because of concerns over the safety of voters and poll workers during the coronavirus pandemic.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
