Her onscreen love interests in \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nfKO9rYDmE8\">The Lost City<\/a>,\u201d one of the few films to lure theatergoers back post-COVID, were Channing Tatum, 42, and Brad Pitt, 58.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine that \u2014 pairing an AARP-eligible male heartthrob with an age-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate female costar. No small feat considering Pitt\u2019s last onscreen love interest was Margaret Qualley, 25 years old when \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ELeMaP8EPAA\">Once Upon a Time in Hollywood<\/a>\u201d was released.<\/p>\n<p>Bullock\u2019s not alone. She\u2019s part of a small yet strong cohort proving the viability of the 50-something romantic heroine: Jennifer Lopez, at 52, headlines two romcoms this year: \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ebv9_rNb5Ig\">Marry Me<\/a>,\u201d and \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/movies\/jennifer-lopez-shotgun-wedding-release-date-photos\/\">Shotgun Wedding<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before you object, quality\u2019s not important here \u2014 networks and cinemas and streamers are awash with middle-aged male mediocrity. The mere existence of these projects, starring women of a certain age, is the point.<\/p>\n<p>Take Julia Roberts, at 54, starring with George Clooney in October\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6L9GhPjZGo0\">Ticket to Paradise<\/a>\u201d \u2014 another rare age-appropriate coupling.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a slow burn, but Hollywood is finally recognizing a trend corporate America long ago seized upon: The spending power of the 50-something woman. This is the largest demographic, according to a 2018 Forbes report, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/njgoldston\/2018\/08\/21\/how-to-harness-the-untapped-spending-power-of-the-50-ish-super-consumer\/?sh=1bfeeecf16db\">earning annual salaries of over $100,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Forty million women \u2014 \u201cthe healthiest, wealthiest and most active generation in history,\u201d the magazine said \u2014 with over $15 trillion in disposable income.<\/p>\n<p>And surprise: They want to see themselves, and women older than they are, represented. Hence L\u2019Or\u00e9al ambassador Helen Mirren on the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/style\/helen-mirren-people-beautiful-issue-cover-interview\/\">cover of People\u2019s Most Beautiful issue<\/a>. Lauren Hutton on the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/culture\/features\/a39697802\/0122-0129-lauren-hutton-on-going-your-own-way-may-2022\/\">cover of this month\u2019s Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/a>. Freed from childrearing, single or divorcing or divorced, they are mainly making their own money, buying their own luxury goods, chartering private planes to villas and yachts.<\/p>\n<p>These women are the same age as \u201cThe Golden Girls\u201d were. That\u2019s never not a mind-blowing fact.<\/p>\n<p>And then, of course, there\u2019s\u00a0Nancy Meyers, one of the few female writer-directors of any age.
