Now, all workers have Fridays off.<\/p>\n<p>The company wanted to see whether a new way of working could boost productivity \u2013 it estimates workers are now delivering up to 20% more than they would over a five-day week.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"less-work-same-pay\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Less_work_same_pay\"><\/span>Less work, same pay<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>But while staff work less hours, pay hasn\u2019t been docked \u2013 nor holiday allowance.<\/p>\n<p>John gets 25 days holiday, which doesn\u2019t include bank holidays.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year there are nine bank holidays, so John gets 34 days off in total.<\/p>\n<p>Wages or holiday entitlement has not been cut because the company believes workers can do their jobs just as well in four days as they do in five.<\/p>\n<p>John thinks he does a better job doing a four-day week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA four day week helps me focus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t necessarily work longer hours from Monday to Thursday \u2013 I\u2019m just more productive and plan more as I know I don\u2019t have Fridays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amount of stuff you can cut out without impacting performance is unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, he sometimes finds he does log in on Fridays to do some work, but says its through his own choice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes, if I have a deadline, I choose to work on Fridays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a five month period, I\u2019ve put in four or five hours of work in total and it\u2019s been my choice to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He says it has made a \u201cbig difference\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat extra day of no pressure is unbelievable \u2013 makes such a big difference to wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy daughter says I was always too tired on Fridays to do anything in the evenings \u2013 but now we go to the cinema. It was heartbreaking to hear, but now there\u2019s been a big change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ier as a family \u2013 my wife works shifts at an airline, so when she\u2019s off on Friday we can spend time together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing out for breakfast has been amazing, and has brought us closer together.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/Seatfrog.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"The Seatfrog logo. John enjoys four-day weeks and says the extra day off at the weekend has been \u201clife changing.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Seatfrog<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"who-else-is-doing-four-day-weeks\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Who_else_is_doing_four-day_weeks\"><\/span>Who else is doing four-day weeks?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Thousands of workers across the country could\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/money\/18160526\/uk-workers-to-trial-a-four-day-week\/#:~:text=Participating%20businesses%20will%20trial%20a,and%20hopefully%20maintain%20100%25%20productivity.\">soon benefit from a four-day week<\/a>\u00a0like John \u2013 without seeing their wages docked.<\/p>\n<p>In total, 60 firms with 3,000 staff have signed up to take part in a pilot, which will give workers a longer weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot starts in June and runs for six months \u2013 it\u2019s being organised by the campaign group 4 Day Week Global.<\/p>\n<p>The idea is that staff will get 100% of their salary for 80% of the time, and hopefully maintain 100% productivity.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as Atom Bank announced in November last year that its 430 workers can\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/money\/16822129\/bank-four-day-week-without-cutting-pay\/\">choose to take Mondays or Fridays off work<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and they won\u2019t lose a penny of pay.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve also rounded up other major companies who are\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/money\/16955730\/full-list-of-companies-four-day-weeks\/\">offering three-day weekends too.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"can-i-ask-my-boss-for-a-four-day-week\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Can_I_ask_my_boss_for_a_four-day_week\"><\/span>Can I ask my boss for a four-day week?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Requesting flexible work is known as making a statutory application.<\/p>\n<p>There are different types of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/money\/15544781\/how-ask-boss-flexible-working-office-july-19\/\">flexible working requests<\/a>\u00a0you can make, such as switching to part time hours or compressing your working hours into fewer days.<\/p>\n<p>Your boss has to consider the request, but they don\u2019t have to agree and you might have to take a pay cut for working fewer hours.<\/p>\n<p>To make a request, you should write to your employer who will then consider your proposal and make a decision, usually within three months.<\/p>\n<p>If they agree, your contract will be updated to reflect the changes.<\/p>\n<p>If they disagree, they have to give you a reason and you could complain to an employment tribunal if you feel it\u2019s unfair.<\/p>\n<p><em>This story originally appeared <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/money\/18382116\/work-four-day-weeks-its-changed-my-life\/\">on The Sun<\/a> and was reproduced here with permission. <\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
