Wade decision, opening the door for \u201cstricter limits on abortion access in large swaths of the South and Midwest, with about half of the states set to im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely impose broad abortion bans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The leak is in itself newsworthy, and the political ramifications are big enough that they are sure to be felt on this side of the border.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Lynching\u2019? <\/strong>Meanwhile, in Canada,\u00a0the CPC announced the six candidates who will <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear on the ballot in February, and three social conservatives didn\u2019t make the cut, although they filed 500 signatures and ponied up $300,000, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/conservative-leadership-race-social-conservative-1.6438257\">CBC<\/a>\u00a0reports. The candidates are displeased.<\/p>\n<p>On the ballot:\u00a0<strong>Scott Aitchison, Roman Baber, Patrick Brown, Leslyn Lewis, Pierre Poilievre<\/strong> and <strong>Jean Charest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not on the ballot:\u00a0<strong>Grant Abraham, Joseph Bourgault<\/strong> and <strong>Joel Etienne.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The non-candidates are all social conservative newcomers to politics. The party <strong>didn\u2019t say why<\/strong> it excluded them, but the rules allow it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to the party\u2019s leadership election rules, the Leadership Candidate Nomination Committee (LCNC), the group of party stalwarts reviewing applications from would-be candidates, can also rely on \u201cany other information they see fit to ascertain the suitability of an applicant.\u201d The LCNC can, in turn, recommend to LEOC that a particular candidate be barred from running.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Jack Fonseca<\/strong>, of the Campaign Life Coalition, said it was a \u201clynching of social conservatives,\u201d adding: \u201cThey\u2019re trying to cancel us and it\u2019s a total disgrace. This is what Red Tories do. <strong>Red Tories cheat<\/strong>. They\u2019re dishonest and they don\u2019t like to play fair. They\u2019re corrupt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Under fire:\u00a0<\/strong>Pro-Israel groups are calling for <strong>Patrick Brown<\/strong> to clarify after he broke ranks with the official CPC position on the Canadian embassy in Israel and drew drawing analogies between Ukrainians and Palestinians, the <em>Post<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/politics\/patrick-brown-under-fire-for-comments-comparing-palestinians-to-ukrainians\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Brown made both comments in the transcript of an interview published over the weekend with <em>Sada Al Mashrek<\/em>, a publication that serves the Muslim community in Montreal. However, Brown\u2019s team said on Monday that the published transcript was an inaccurate portrayal of his views. Shimon Koffler Fogel, president and CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), said he was concerned over Brown\u2019s \u201cdisturbing comments\u201d in the published article. \u201cWe have engaged directly with both Mr. Brown and his campaign team and are <strong>looking forward to public clarifications<\/strong> he may provide over the coming days,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>No to WEF: Pierre Poilievre<\/strong> told a supporter that <strong>Maxime Bernier<\/strong> should explain his ties to the World Economic Forum \u2014 a think tank that is the target of anti-vax conspiracy theories \u2014 <em>Press Progress<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pressprogress.ca\/video-shows-pierre-poilievre-linking-maxime-bernier-to-global-organization-tied-to-far-right-conspiracies\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>After informing the supporter he has long opposed the WEF, Poilievre calls on<strong> Maxime Bernier<\/strong> to explain his own ties to the World Economic Forum: \u201cUnlike <strong>Maxime Bernier<\/strong>, I\u2019ve never been to the Davos conference that the World Economic Forum puts on. And he\u2019ll have to explain why he went there and what he was doing there, but I did not go to that, and I would not go to it, nor will any of my ministers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Susan Delacourt<\/strong>, who was in Ottawa for the \u201cRolling Thunder\u201d rally this weekend, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/political-opinion\/2022\/05\/01\/ottawa-is-boring-again-to-everyones-relief.html\">notes<\/a> in the <em>Star<\/em> that it did not have anything like the impact of the \u201cFreedom Convoy,\u201d and Poilievre kept his distance.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Pierre Poilievre<\/strong>, the candidate most closely aligned with the \u201cfreedom\u201d convoyeurs, was out and about in the GTA over the weekend, far away from his own Ottawa-area riding and definitely not mugging for the cameras with the motorcyclists, as some might have expected. On Sunday, Poilievre did post a video on Twitter, in which he vowed to end vaccine mandates, but he didn\u2019t include any nods to the protests winding down in Ottawa.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Love-fest:<\/strong> As Ontarians brace themselves for a provincial election, and federal Liberals and provincial Tories <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/business\/article-stellantis-announces-36-billion-retool-of-ontario-plants-to-make\/\">unite to spend money<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>Lorrie Goldstein<\/strong>, in the <em>Toronto Sun<\/em>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/opinion\/goldstein-fords-path-to-victory-is-to-win-over-trudeau-voters\">points out<\/a> that <strong>Doug Ford\u2019s<\/strong> path to victory necessitates winning the votes of a bunch of people who just voted for Justin Trudeau.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cheap fares:<\/strong> Meanwhile, the Ontario Liberals are promising $1 transit fares, the Globe <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-ontario-2022-election-liberals-buck-a-fare\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boosting Kenney:<\/strong> In the <em>Post<\/em>, <strong>Sean Speer<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/opinion\/sean-speer-jason-kenneys-critics-are-wrong-alberta-is-the-only-place-conservatism-is-winning\">argues<\/a> that <strong>Jason Kenney<\/strong>, whose fate is in the hands of UCP members, is leading \u201can energetic, reform-oriented, conservative government,\u201d and deserves to hang on to his job.<\/p>\n<p>In the <em><strong>Star<\/strong><\/em>, <strong>Chantal Hebert<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/political-opinion\/2022\/05\/01\/pierre-poilievre-and-doug-ford-are-shrugging-off-climate-change-voters-might-be-ok-with-that.html\">observes<\/a> that Poilievre and Ford are likely right to believe voters are not in the mood for more aggressive climate action.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">Regardless of who eventually takes the Conservative helm in September, the party will be committed to <strong>turning back the climate policy clock<\/strong> a decade to the time when the last Conservative federal government treated a carbon price for consumers as an abomination and acted as a facilitator for pipeline promoters. For the many provincial governments that hail from the conservative side of the spectrum, such an approach would likely be welcome.
