Supreme Court decisions like Roe v. Wade, by contrast, are merely judicial rulings. Yes, they\u2019re supposed to respect precedent, but when they believe precedents are \u201cegregiously\u201d wrong (as Justice Samuel Alito notes in his draft opinion overturning Roe), they have a <em>duty <\/em>to overturn them. Does Rep. Pramila Jayapal (Wash.-D) think the court had no right to overturn Plessy v. Gov. Ron DeSantis\u2019 claim \u2014 that \u201calmost 60%\u201d of student debt is \u201cgraduate-school debt\u201d \u2014 \u201cmostly false\u201d because the actual percentage held by grad-degree households is \u201conly\u201d <em>56%. <\/em>Huh? Are we in grade school? In his fact-check, Reyes also claims the actual share of grad-school debt (as opposed to debt held by <em>households<\/em> with graduate degrees) was only about 40%. But DeSantis\u2019 main<em> <\/em>point \u2014 that under Dems\u2019 loan forgiveness, truck drivers and waitresses would be paying off the debts of PhD\u2019s via their taxes \u2014 stands.
