A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/poll.qu.edu\/poll-release?releaseid=3845\">new Quinnipiac poll<\/a> shows his <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roval sliding \u2014 with worries over crime driving the collapse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Turns out wearing an anti-gun tux at the Met Gala wasn\u2019t the approach the public wants: 54% now disapprove of his handling of crime, up from 35% in February.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Makes sense: The city\u2019s worsening-by-the-day crime demands much more than splashy, empty gestures.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, credit where it\u2019s due: Adams is <em>trying<\/em>, and he has the right ideas.\u00a0His recent pushes on guns, for example, take square aim at a central underlying driver of sky-high crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On these he is seeing <em>some <\/em>results.<strong> <\/strong>Shootings were almost down 30% last month from April 2021<strong> <\/strong>(though they were still nearly double the pre-pandemic level).<strong> <\/strong>Murders, happily, were down even bigger year-on-year: 38%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But major crimes were up 34.2% overall, with big increases in robberies (up almost 42%), burglaries (up 39.4%)<strong> <\/strong>and felony assaults (up almost 21%).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And yes, breaking up homeless encampments will likely reduce the chances of violent street encounters in those neighborhoods. Santiago\/Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bottom line: New Yorkers want <em>more<\/em> policing, not less. That fits with past polls revealing clear majorities in favor of changing the state\u2019s insane bail laws and other disastrous criminal-justice \u201creforms\u201d and mega-majorities favoring more cops on the subway.<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers (outside a loud and largely affluent minority) don\u2019t <em>like<\/em> the \u201cdefund and abolish\u201d left. And they\u2019re sure as heck not souring on Adams for being too <em>hard<\/em> on crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An Adams spokesman\u2019s comment on the Q poll: \u201cReducing crime won\u2019t happen overnight.\u201d Fine; this mayor inherited a city mired in dysfunction. And Gov. Santiago\/Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But the public\u2019s patience is wearing thin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Adams and his NYPD brass need to get creative (and not just when it comes to clothing).  Come up with more initiatives, on top of his anti-gun units. It\u2019d help to send an unmistakable signal that street cops have his full support if they run into trouble for doing their jobs: Too many are still hanging back, because the politicians have been targeting them for years now. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Until the public clearly sees crime dropping, the city\u2019s much-vaunted \u201crecovery\u201d will remain phantasmal as New Yorkers continue to live in fear.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
