Instead, Martin has been replaced in the lead role by <strong>Adam DeVine<\/strong> (<em>Workaholics<\/em>), who\u2019s doing his very best \u201cJack Black in <em>School of Rock<\/em>\u201d impression as a down-on-his-luck camp counselor who is being overshadowed by a rival counselor, played by <em>Community<\/em>\u2018s <strong>Gillian Jacobs<\/strong>. Check out the <em>Magic Camp<\/em> trailer below.<br \/><\/br><span id=\"more-630735\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Magic_Camp_Trailer\"><\/span>Magic Camp Trailer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GAmcupYhwKA?feature=oembed\" width=\"740\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been a long time since I\u2019ve seen such a blatant rip-off of another actor\u2019s schtick, and it\u2019s a real shame that Jack Black won\u2019t be receiving royalties from this movie.<\/p>\n<p><em>Mean<\/em> <em>Girls<\/em> director <strong>Mark Waters<\/strong> directed <em>Magic Camp<\/em>, which has had a bumpy development path as its shuffled through tons of screenwriters along the way. Martin co-wrote an early draft with <em>A.C.O.D.<\/em> writer\/director Stu Zicherman, but\u00a0the final movie has a story by <strong>Gabe Sachs<\/strong>, <strong>Jeff Judah<\/strong>, <strong>Matt Spicer<\/strong>, and <strong>Max Winkler<\/strong>, with \u201cscreenplay by\u201d credits going to Spicer, Winkler, <strong>Noah Harpster<\/strong>, <strong>Micah Fitzerman-Blue<\/strong>, <strong>Dan Gregor<\/strong>, and <strong>Doug Mand<\/strong>. It\u2019s commonplace for multiple writers to work on any given studio film, but it\u2019s much more rare for this many of them to receive official credits for their work.<\/p>\n<p>Since this version of\u00a0<em>Magic Camp<\/em> does not look good, your time might be better spent watching the charming-looking documentary of the same name that inspired this film:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c66akzqScs0?feature=oembed\" width=\"740\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the new movie\u2019s official synopsis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A group of misfit campers help a down-on-his-luck magician rediscover his love of magic in Disney\u2019s \u201cMagic Camp,\u201d a heartwarming comedy about finding joy and confidence in self-acceptance. As a boy attending the Institute of Magic, a secluded mountain retreat which plays host to a bevy of aspiring young magicians each summer, Andy Duckerman (Adam Devine) was a camp legend. Now, at 35, he\u2019s struggling to make ends meet as a professional illusionist and is frustrated and depressed by the direction his career has taken. But when the Institute invites Andy to return as a counselor, he finds himself in charge of the greenest and most awkward wannabe magicians, and having to deal with his former partner and current arch rival, Kristina Darkwood (Gillian Jacobs), who\u2019s also a counselor.
