\n President Trump on Monday said he submitted a request with the World Trade Organization asking it to end China\u2019s status as a \u201cdeveloping nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

China\u2019s WTO status is a frequent talking point for Trump, but the president told reporters at a White House briefing he made his grievance official.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are putting in and we\u2019ve already put in a request that China should no longer be declared a developing nation and have advantages over the US,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd I told them that a year ago and I told them that two years ago and we put it in very powerfully that they should not have advantages over other countries, frankly, and they\u2019re not gonna have any more advantages.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the WTO did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

According to Trump, the WTO\u2019s treatment of China is unfair to the US.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis should have been done by numerous presidents a long time ago because it gives them a tremendous \u2014 a tremendous boost over everybody else and it\u2019s a very unfair situation,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a developing nation? I don\u2019t think so. I don\u2019t think for purposes of what we\u2019re talking about it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

The US and China are in an increasingly bitter clash including over deception about early data on COVID-19 before it spread overseas, and in response to China eliminating political autonomy in Hong Kong. Trump this month signed an order banning \u2014 or forcing the sale of \u2014 the popular China-owned social media network TikTok over data security concerns.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
