\n Thousands of Los Angeles demonstrators arrested for violating curfew amid protests over the death of George Floyd will not face criminal charges, prosecutors said Monday.<\/p>\n

As of last Tuesday, some 2,500 protesters in the city had been busted for breaking curfew or refusing to leave demonstrations over the course of several days of unrest in the wake of Floyd\u2019s May 25 death in Minneapolis, according to police.<\/p>\n

An updated tally was not immedia<\/a>tely available.<\/p>\n

But City Attorney Mike Feuer said Monday that, instead of being charged with a crime, the demonstrators will be given a court alternative that bears no punishment.<\/p>\n

Feuer did not provide specifics, but said he envisioned a forum attended by the protesters and police to \u201ccreate an environment where participants really listen to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said her office will also not file charges against protestors arrested in misdemeanor cases outside the city limits<\/p>\n

However, those arrested for looting, burglary and other violent offenses during the protests will still face criminal charges, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n
