The 118-year-old tower now serves as a mast for LED advertising signs and as the site of the world-famous ball-drop.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a026-story structure will have an all-new look by 2024, including a new facade and\u00a0new windows. An indoor, 12-floor visitors center is to have a Times Square museum, interactive and virtual-reality experiences, and an outdoor viewing deck overlooking the \u201cCrossroads of the World.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A new public plaza on the tower\u2019s east side will replace an unsightly construction site. (The rest is from a ground-floor Walgreens store).<\/p>\n<p>Despite its iconic status, most of One Times Square \u00a0\u2014 the original home of the New York Times \u2014 has long been an eyesore due to\u00a0a decayed, \u00a0marble-covered \u00a0facade and a scaffold around its south end.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown bought the property in 1997.\u00a0Various plans to bring in offices and restaurants fell through both before and after Jamestown\u2019s purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Times Square Alliance president Tom Harris said, \u201cWe celebrate with Jamestown as they redevelop\u00a0this historic building that will inspire and engage the millions who visit Times Square.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
