But he has been a glue guy during Memphis\u2019 rousing season that continues against the Warriors in Game 3 on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>League sources said Jones could command the full non-taxpayer $10.2 million mid-level exception \u2014 which the Knicks possess as they don\u2019t have cap space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love him,\u2019\u2019 one NBA coach told The Post. \u201cHe has to be one of the best backup point guards in the league, if not the best.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/1239582044.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Knicks\" class=\"wp-image-22181760\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/1239582044.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/1239582044.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/1239582044.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Tyus Jones<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">NBAE via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jones, 25, set an NBA record for best assists-to-turnover ratio this season (7.4 to 1) in 73 games \u2014 the fourth straight season in which he has led the league. The central question is whether a career backup can make the jump to starter, and in New York, no less.<\/p>\n<p>In the Knicks\u2019 circumstance, though, Jones could occupy a 25-minute starting role and have Immanuel Quickley or Derrick Rose as a change-of-pace backup.<\/p>\n<p>With Kemba Walker effectively done as a Knick and Rose no longer a guarantee because of his health, the franchise is desperate to add a legitimate floor <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> to the roster. (This year\u2019s draft is considered weak at point guard).<\/p>\n<p>Jones also knows RJ Barrett from the Duke brotherhood. Jones\u2019 younger brother, Tre, played with Barrett at Duke in 2018-19.<\/p>\n<p>If Jones isn\u2019t an explosive penetrator, he may not need to be, because Barrett and Julius Randle are relentless attackers. That Jones shot 39 percent from 3-point range is a boon.<\/p>\n<p>In 21.2 minutes per game, Jones averaged 4.4 assists and 8.7 points. He also committed fewer than one turnover per game (0.6).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJones had the best year of his career,\u2019\u2019 one NBA personnel man said. \u201cHe\u2019s a solid backup \u2014 not a starter. After a season of the oft-injured Walker and Rose, that would be refreshing for the Knicks.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Some scouts, however, view Jones as too small and not athletic enough to be a full-fledged starting point guard. Yet the Grizzlies, in an oddity, went 20-3 when Jones started for an injured Morant, because he\u2019s known as an organizer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe isn\u2019t good enough, simply,\u2019\u2019 the personnel man said of Jones being a full-blown starter. \u201cHe struggled to maintain a role as a direct backup [in Memphis] until this season. He fluctuated in and out of [the] Grizzlies\u2019 rotation as backup and third point guard.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Thibodeau likes winners and Jones won an NCAA title at Duke in 2015. (Brunson won two at Villanova). <\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Tyus] is an adequate defender,\u2019\u2019 another NBA scout said. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t get to the line and is just not quite dynamic enough to be a point guard on a final-four team. He can start on many teams, but not title-contending ones. He shot the ball very well this year, but that hasn\u2019t been his pattern.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Jones is a 35.2 percent 3-point shooter in 455 regular-season games \u2014 a mark slightly better than his Duke brother Barrett.<\/p>\n<p>With a Brunson signing complicated and expensive, Jones could be the steadier fallback.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
