\u201cbooze-induced heartburn\u201d was horrified to discover that she actually had an incurable cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s literally turned my life upside down,\u201d Georgia Ford, 20, told Kennedy <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> of the misdiagnosis gone horribly wrong. \u201cI\u2019d gone from being a full university student within a few weeks to being in hospital as a cancer patient.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Gloucester, England, native specifically has a rare cancer called papillary renal cell carcinoma \u2014 which entails a tumor stemming from her kidneys that has metastasized to her lungs, liver, lymph nodes and bones. <\/p>\n<p>Ford had initially reported to the doctor after feeling ill with heartburn \u2014 a symptom of acid reflux \u2014 whereupon he inquired about her drinking habits.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img tablets,\u201d recalled Ford, who has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/fightagainstprcc\">been studying law at the University of Exeter.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>She became suspicious of the doc\u2019s diagnosis upon visiting home \u2014 and, though she didn\u2019t drink over her stay, her symptoms lingered.<\/p>\n<p>When the pills didn\u2019t do the trick, her physicians reportedly chalked up her discomfort to a different, un-concerning affliction relating to back pain she\u2019d been experiencing since August 2020. Hospitals then misdiagnosed it as muscle spasms.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put my back pain down to bad posture or sleeping positions,\u201d said Ford. \u201cI\u2019ve always slumped and sat funny.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Ford later realized that wasn\u2019t the case. In October 2021, her lower back pain flared up again \u2014 \u201cobviously in hindsight\u201d a sign of kidney problems, she said. I said, \u2018I fail to believe that I\u2019m having this many severe symptoms and it\u2019s all in my head.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eventually Ford reported to the emergency room after her cough became so bad that she struggled to walk long distances or climb stairs. She even began coughing up blood. Most commonly seen in adults 55 and older, PRCC affects 15% of kidney cancer sufferers, causing symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, fever and bloody urine, according <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.gov\/pediatric-adult-rare-tumor\/rare-tumors\/rare-kidney-tumors\/papillary-renal-cell-carcinoma\">to the National Institutes of Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By the time Ford\u2019s cancer was detected, it had already spread throughout her body, prompting myriad other symptoms, like her mysterious cough.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Her condition, she would learn, was \u201cincurable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s very few times in my life where I\u2019ve been speechless \u2026 words just completely evaded me,\u201d Ford said of the moment she learned her diagnosis. \u201cIt\u2019s just like this overwhelming sadness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to curb cancer, the patient began immunotherapy, including daily tablets and intravenous (IV) treatment. She also takes portable oxygen tanks whenever she goes out, and uses an oxygen pipe at night to aid her breathing.<\/p>\n<p>Ford says her goal is to \u201clive normally,\u201d and feel well enough to resume her law studies in September.
