Mitch McConnell, the top Republican in the Senate, said national abortion legislation is \u201cpossible\u201d if the Supreme Court strikes down Roe v. Wade\u200b.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the leaked opinion became the final opinion, legislative bodies \u2014 not only at the state level but at the federal level \u2014 certainly could legislate in that area,\u201d\u00a0\u200bthe Kentucky Republican told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/\u200bwww.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/05\/06\/gop-avoids-abortion-ahead-potential-scotus-ruling-overturn-roe\/9631996002\/?gnt-cfr=1\">USA Today\u200b.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if this were the final decision, that was the point that it should be resolved one way or another in the legislative process. And if and when the court makes a final decision, I expect everybody will be more definitive,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think it\u2019s much of a secret where senator Republicans stand on that issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the decision an \u201cabomination,\u201d will call a vote on Tuesday to codify Roe v.
