Kathy Hochul said she hasn\u2019t lost any sleep about her disgraced predecessor Andrew Cuomo potentially launching an independent bid to oust her.<\/p>\n<p>During an interview on ABC that aired Sunday, Hochul declined to weigh in when asked about her \u201cmessage\u201d to the scandal-scarred fellow Democrat \u2014 following the release of a poll that showed Cuomo could play spoiler if mounts a longshot independent bid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no message,\u201d the governor said. \u201cEveryone will do what they choose to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hochul told anchor Bill Ritter she was \u201cproud\u201d to lead the Empire State, and will \u201ccontinue being focused on delivering for New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe certainly already have at least six people running for the seat,\u201d she noted, adding, \u201cI\u2019m working hard. Coughlin \/ Office of th<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cuomo \u2014 who resigned in August 2021 amid a barrage of sexual harassment allegations \u2014 is \u201cseriously considering\u201d a run as an independent candidate,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/08\/hochul-looks-for-a-turnaround-after-her-roughest-stretch-yet-00030484\">Politico New York report Sunday<\/a>, citing sources close to the disgraced former governor.<\/p>\n<p>Pressed by Ritter on her \u201cfeelings\u201d about Cuomo possibly mounting a campaign without a major party ballot line, Hochul responded, \u201cBill, I really \u2014 I don\u2019t process this.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not [occupying] any space in my mind. If he chooses to enter the race as an independent, he would need to father 45,000 petition signatures by May 31 in order to get on the ballot on Nov. 8.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul faces\u00a0US Rep. Tom Suozzi\u00a0from Long Island to her right and\u00a0Public Advocate Jumaane Williams\u00a0to her left in the primary.\u00a0If she fends off the challengers, she would in November likely face Rep Lee Zeldin (R-Long Island), who is favored against GOP primary opponents Rob Astorino,\u00a0Andrew Giuliani\u00a0and\u00a0Harry Wilson.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview that aired Sunday morning, Hochul also touted her work with state lawmakers to protect reproductive rights in the wake of\u00a0an\u00a0unprecedented leak of a draft opinion revealing the Supreme Court could rule to overturn Roe v. If he chooses to enter the race as an independent, he would need to father 45,000 petition signatures by May 31, 2022.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP Photo\/Seth Wenig<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to be working with a constitutional amendment to enshrine these protections in our state constitution,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been ready, but we\u2019re having to really ramp up our efforts to let New Yorkers know that we will not stand by and let there be this assault on their fundamental rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a high priority,\u201d Hochul added. \u201cWe are turning over every stone right now to see what we can do to protect women.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the governor vowed that she and her team missing red flags during the vetting process that led up to her choosing ex-Lt. Gov Brian Benjamin \u2014 who resigned last month after being indicted for an alleged campaign finance scheme \u2014 will \u201cnever h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, lessons learned, and we\u2019ll make sure that would never happen again.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve said that the vetting process was expedited, because I had very short time back in August \u2014 when I unexpectedly became the governor \u2014 and yes, we would do it differently,\u201d she explained. \u201cWe did do it differently, which is why I\u2019m very proud [that] Congressman Antonio Delgado will soon be the lieutenant governor.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
