Select users will have the option to display and share NFTs on their profile beginning the week of May 16th. Instagram claims that NFT integration will help artists make money, but Instagram is a business, so it\u2019s obviously searching for a way to profit off of NFTs.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Zuckerberg <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/zuck\/posts\/10114468245426981\">calls this a \u201ctest,\u201d<\/a> as Instagram will\u00a0<em>slowly<\/em> integrate NFTs with its platform. In the beginning, Instagram will basically treat NFTs like fancy pictures. They\u2019ll have a shiny animation (like holographic baseball cards) and will include both the artist\u2019s and owner\u2019s names. Further on, NFTs will work with Instagram\u2019s AR filters, though the details are a bit murky.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, which only offers NFT avatars to Twitter Blue subscribers, Instagram will let people share NFTs for free. Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri says that the platform will help support artists, and that Instagram will work with the crypto community to build new features without violating the decentralized nature of NFTs.<\/p>\n<p>But as we know, the promise that NFTs will help artists rarely comes true. People regularly steal artists\u2019 work to create NFTs, small artists who try to make NFTs <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thatkimparker.medium.com\/most-artists-are-not-making-money-off-nfts-and-here-are-some-graphs-to-prove-it-c65718d4a1b8\">often lose money<\/a> doing so, and frankly, the most popular NFTs are butt-ugly generative images pumped out by an algorithm.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NFTs on Instagram \ud83c\udf89<\/p>\n<p>This week we\u2019re beginning to test digital collectibles with a handful of US creators and collectors who will be able to share NFTs on Instagram. The company has not explicitly stated this, though\u00a0Mark Zuckerberg <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=10114450848889781&amp;id=4\">recently explained<\/a>\u00a0the need for Facebook to diversify its revenue streams through a two-pronged strategy.<\/p>\n<p>The first step is to make Facebook, Instagram, and Whats<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a> more profitable. This \u201cFamily of Apps,\u201d as Zuckerberg describes it, is currently suffering due to\u00a0\u201cApple\u2019s iOS changes,\u201d which have made collecting and selling user data more difficult.<\/p>\n<p>We previously saw Instagram open an in-app marketplace with a custom payment system, so an integrated NFT marketplace wouldn\u2019t be much of a surprise. And although Facebook hasn\u2019t discussed an Instagram NFT store, it previously attempted to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/02\/01\/tech\/facebook-diem-association-dissolving\/index.html\">create a cryptocurrency<\/a> and has repeatedly mentioned how NFTs could contribute to the metaverse.<\/p>\n<p>And that brings us to the second part of Facebook\u2019s strategy, which is the \u201cReality Labs\u201d section of its business\u2014the metaverse, mixed reality, and so on.\u00a0When Mark Zuckerberg introduced his metaverse concept last year, he discussed how NFTs could drive a virtual economy, and even shared a concept video of musician <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VKPNJ8sOU_M?t=1159\">Jon Batiste selling NFT merch<\/a> at a virtual concert.<\/p>\n<p>Even if Instagram goes without building an NFT marketplace, the company will learn a lot about NFTs. This knowledge could contribute to the metaverse\u2019s crypto economy, and of course, it could help integrate that economy with Facebook\u2019s social media apps.<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, get ready, because NFTs are coming to Instagram.
