Over the weekend, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/05\/06\/technology\/elon-musk-twitter-pitch-deck.html\">The New York Times<\/a> published a report about Musk\u2019s pitch deck to investors \u2014\u00a0and the goals described in it are pretty ambitious.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Rocket_fueled_user_growth\"><\/span>Rocket fueled user growth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>931 million. That\u2019s Musk\u2019s target for user numbers by 2028. That\u2019s huge by any measure. But for reference, let\u2019s take a look at the current numbers for Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/s22.q4cdn.com\/826641620\/files\/doc_financials\/2022\/q1\/Final-Q1%E2%80%9922-earnings-release.pdf\">Q1 2022 results<\/a> suggest it has 229 million daily active users (DAUs) with a growth of 15.9% year-on-year. Even if this growth rate continues, Twitter will only hit 550 million users by 2028.<\/p>\n<p>The company will have to grow its user base at an annual rate of 26% year-on-year from now on to reach the mark of 931 million.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a tough ask, given platforms like Facebook and Netflix are finding it hard to increase their audience. Even Snap, a company that\u2019s doing better than Facebook and Twitter, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/04\/21\/snapchat-q1-2022-results\/#:~:text=Snap%2C%20parent%20company%20to%20Snapchat,over%20year%20to%20%241.06%20billion.\">grew its user numbers by only 18% in Q1 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, since it\u2019s a Musk pitch deck, there\u2019s a 69 (million) joke in there. That\u2019s the number of paying users he\u2019s targeting by 2025.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lofty_revenue_goals\"><\/span>Lofty revenue goals<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Musk\u2019s pitch deck aims to get Twitter to reach a yearly revenue figure of $26.8 billion by 2028. For comparison, the company\u2019s revenue last year was $5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The former PayPal CEO wants Twitter to stop relying entirely on ads for revenue. He wants these to account for $12 billion by 2028 \u2014 almost 45% of the revenue. Currently, it represents <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nytimes\/status\/1522240980052852736\">roughly 90% of the company\u2019s business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The NYT report notes that Musk expects $10 billion in revenue from sub<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ions by 2028. He also wants payments \u2014 offerings like shopping and tipping creators \u2014 to generate $1.3 billion by that time.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Everything_else\"><\/span>Everything else<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are a few other things Musk wants to do with Twitter\u2019s business, but the details are a bit hazy at the moment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a mysterious product called X, that will have 104 million subscribers by 2028.<\/li>\n<li>Twitter\u2019s current workforce is around 7,500 people. Musk wants to increase that to 9,225 by 2022-end, slash it to 8,332 by 2023, and increase it again to 11,072 by 2025. Such specific numbers will require micromanagement and precise hiring. A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1522595770288906242?s=20&amp;t=iWi2oom0t2RqFPNNZb126A\">tweet<\/a> by Musk over the weekend indicates that his vision would largely involve hiring more engineers.<\/li>\n<li>Raise the average revenue per user to $30.22 by 2028 \u2014 up from $24.83 last year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of these goals are incredibly ambitious, and it\u2019ll require a radical shift at Twitter to achieve them.
