\n The Mets are still trying to figure out a pitching plan for Wednesday against the Nationals, with an evident preference toward a bullpen game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With Michael Wacha on the injured list, the team could go with some combination of relievers to get through Wednesday, but after manager Luis Rojas received extended duty from his bullpen in a 16-4 loss to the Nationals, much could rest on how far Rick Porcello gets in his Tuesday start.<\/p>\n

Jacob deGrom pitched only five innings Sunday, a day before Steven Matz lasted 4 \u00b9\/\u2083 frames.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt kind of exposes a little bit of the bullpen back-to-back days when you are looking at Wednesday,\u201d Rojas said. \u201cWe have to wait to see how the game goes [Tuesday].\u201d<\/p>\n

Otherwise, the Mets could look toward their alternate workout site in Brooklyn to recall Franklyn Kilome, Walker Lockett or Corey Oswalt, among others.<\/p>\n

Even before he opted out from the season Monday, Marcus Stroman wasn\u2019t a candidate to start in Wacha\u2019s place, as the Mets wanted the right-hander to pitch an additional simulated game this week in his rehab from a left calf tear. Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo were two names mentioned by general<\/a> manager Brodie Van Wagenen as possibilities to fill the final spot in the rotation, with Wacha sidelined by shoulder inflammation. Lefty rookie David Peterson has been filling Stroman\u2019s rotation spot.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Gsellman and Lugo] have a history of starting games,\u201d Rojas said. \u201cThose guys are definitely guys that can be a part of that, but Lugo is a great part of our bullpen right now and G is just joining us and creating more depth in our bullpen. They are guys we can definitely sit down and talk about, but that hasn\u2019t happ<\/a>ened yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gsellman on Saturday pitched in his first game in almost a year, after incurring a triceps strain during summer camp. The right-hander missed the final six weeks of last season with a lat strain.<\/p>\n

Lugo has expressed a desire to pitch from the starting rotation, but his dominance from the bullpen as the team\u2019s most trusted reliever would make for a difficult switch.<\/p>\n

J.D. Davis went 0-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch, ending his career-best hitting streak at 13 games. Davis was 16-for-43 (.372) with three homers and 11 RBIs during the streak.<\/p>\n

Luis Guillorme, with his perfect ninth inning, became the first Mets position player to pitch since Jose Reyes on July 31, 2018, at Washington.
