Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears set to complete his $44 billion takeover of Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Thierry Breton, the EU\u2019s internal market commissioner, posted a video on his Twitter account showing him shaking hands with Musk at the Tesla gigafactory in Austin, Texas on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, the EU official tells Musk that he explained the Digital Services Act to Musk. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt fits pretty well with what you think we should do,\u201d Breton tells Musk in a tweet that included the hashtag #DSA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s exactly aligned with my thinking,\u201d Musk responds.<\/p>\n<p>The two did not go into detail on the new law, which levies hefty fines on companies if they do not control illegal content. <\/p>\n<p>The rules ban advertising aimed at children or based on religion, gender, race and political opinions, for example.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/elon-Thierry-Breton-97.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Elon Musk, Thierry Breton\" class=\"wp-image-22204684\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/elon-Thierry-Breton-97.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/elon-Thierry-Breton-97.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/elon-Thierry-Breton-97.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Musk, who is on the verge of acquiring Twitter for $44 billion, and Breton signaled agreement on regulation of social media platforms.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Twitter\/@ThierryBreton<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Musk secured the deal to buy Twitter last month with a pledge to revitalize the company and expand the number of users by cracking down on spam bots and reducing the amount of moderation to facilitate more \u201cfree speech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The billionaire\u2019s comments prompted a rejoinder from Breton that Twitter must comply with new EU rules known as the Digital Services Act tackling illegal online content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElon, there are rules,\u201d Breton\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/22f66209-f5b2-4476-8cdb-de4befffebe5\">told the Financial Times<\/a> last month. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p>\u201cYou are welcome but these are our rules.
