companies hit in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n<p> Bitcoin hit a 10-month low as U,S. stocks continued to fall on Monday. And sales of non-fungible tokens, aka NFTs, plummeted between January and March 2022.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Cuban addressed the slump in a viral <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a><br \/>\n        TWTR,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203180645\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.34%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       thread on Monday. \u201cCrypto is going through the lull that the internet went through,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetTweet\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetTweet\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"dynamic-inset-container article__inset__dynamic\">\n<style>\n            iframe.twitter-tweet {\n                width: 100% !important;\n            }\n        <\/style>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n            <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mcuban\/status\/1523663025202368512\"><\/a>\n            <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>        <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       The comparison between cryptocurrency and the early days of the internet has been made by Cuban and others including entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk before. The dot-com bubble burst in 2000 after several internet-centric companies received high levels of investment speculation, only to eventually bottom-out.<\/p>\n<p>Cuban sold his company Broadcast.com to Yahoo in 1999 for $5.7 billion, just before the dot-com bust. Broadcast.com has since been discontinued.<\/p>\n<p>The billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner is heavily invested and interested in the crypto and NFT space. He claims to own several thousand dollars worth of bitcoin<br \/>\n        BTCUSD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/31322028\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.41%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       ethereum<br \/>\n        ETHUSD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/108573964\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+2.78%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and dogecoin<br \/>\n        DOGEUSD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/226077044\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+2.09%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       according to a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/08\/17\/mark-cuban-owns-494-dollars-worth-of-dogecoin-and-doesnt-prefer-it-over-btc.html\" class=\"icon none\">CNBC<\/a> report, and also says that<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/01\/14\/mark-cuban-says-80percent-of-his-non-shark-tank-investments-are-in-crypto.html\" class=\"icon none\"> 80% of his investments<\/a> that aren\u2019t on \u201cShark Tank\u201d are crypto-related.<\/p>\n<p>But what\u2019s next? While NFTs have exploded in popularity over the past few years, with creators like Beeple and NBA Top Shot selling NFTs for millions of dollars, recent NFT sales have plummeted as more creators flooded the marketplace. The average daily transaction volume on OpenSea, the largest NFT marketplace,  was down more than 55% from January 2022 to March 2022, according to crypto data tracking platform Dune Analytics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>From 2021: <\/strong>What is an NFT? A Beeple NFT just sold on Christie\u2019s for nearly $70 million, highlighting craze for cryptos<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that early on, you saw lots of new entrants who were enthusiastic about this, but didn\u2019t necessarily have a grasp of the fundamentals, and I think the cooling is a reflection of that,\u201d Jordan Birnholtz, co-founder at NFT marketplace Neon told Distributed Ledger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Millionaire Vaynerchuk, who invested early in companies like Facebook<br \/>\n        FB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205064656\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.04%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Twitter, Uber<br \/>\n        UBER,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/211348248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.26%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Snap<br \/>\n        SNAP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205087158\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-4.87%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Venmo, told MarketWatch in July 2021 that he, like Cuban, sees NFTs and crypto following similar paths as the early internet companies in the late 1990s.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI view NFTs exactly the way I viewed the internet in 1999. Internet stocks and their valuations were through the roof, prematurely, and a lot of things collapsed. Meanwhile, eBay<br \/>\n        EBAY,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/204653455\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.81%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Google<br \/>\n        GOOG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205453964\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.15%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Amazon<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.58%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       were all there,\u201d Vaynerchuk said.<\/p>\n<p>Cuban said somethings similar in a now-deleted tweet last January. \u201cWatching the cryptos trade, it\u2019s EXACTLY like the internet stock bubble. EXACTLY,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI think BTC, ETH, a few others will be analogous to those that were built during the dotcom era, survived the bubble bursting and thrived, like AMZN, EBay, and Priceline. Many won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cuban\u2019s latest crypto comments on Monday came as prices for many cryptocurrencies were plummeting. Prices for bitcoin were hovering around roughly half its November peak at $32,000.
