Now it looks like an ad-supported plan could arrive before the end of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>The New York Times<\/em>, Netflix recently told its employees that it wants to introduce an ad-supported sub<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ion in the final three months of the year. Netflix co-CEO\u00a0Reed Hastings said in April the company was \u201copen\u201d to cheaper plans with advertising, but at the time, the plan wasn\u2019t expected to be available for another 1-2 years. The note reportedly said, \u201cyes, it\u2019s fast and ambitious and it will require some trade-offs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many subscription services offer cheaper plans that are subsidized by occasional advertisements, much like cable TV. Hulu is one example, which has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/track.flexlinkspro.com\/g.ashx?foid=1.42392.1000000008&amp;trid=1088663.191558&amp;foc=16&amp;fot=9999&amp;fos=5&amp;fobs=htg&amp;fobs2=804240&amp;fobs3=&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fhelp.hulu.com%2Fs%2Farticle%2Fhow-much-does-hulu-cost\">an ad-supported plan for $6.99 per month<\/a> (or $69.99\/year) in the United States, in addition to the no-ads plan for $12.99\/month. HBO Max also has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/help.hbomax.com\/us\/Answer\/Detail\/000001282\">a plan with ads for $9.99\/month<\/a>, which is $5 cheaper than the ad-free plan. Another Netflix competitor, Disney+, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=204a528a336ede4177fff0d84a044482&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fdmedmedia.disney.com%2Fnews%2Fdisney-plus-to-introduce-an-ad-supported-subscription-offering-in-late-2022\">said in March<\/a> that it would have an ad-supported option in \u201clate 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/04\/20\/media\/netflix-stock-drop\/index.html\">Netflix reported a loss of 200,000 subscribers<\/a> in the first quarter of 2022, a significant difference from 2.5 million subscribers the company expected to <em>gain<\/em> in that time span. The company blamed increasing inflation and COVID disruptions for the loss, as well as Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, which forced Netflix to shut down in Russia (where the company had around 700k subscribers).<\/p>\n<p>The new ad-supported plan is part of Netflix\u2019s plan to recover from its losses, in addition to cracking down on groups of people <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/19\/netflix-warns-password-sharing-crackdown-is-coming.html\">sharing passwords on Netflix accounts<\/a>. The company estimated that more than 100 million households use a shared password, with around 30 million of those households in the United States and Canada. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/03\/17\/1087133199\/netflix-plans-to-start-charging-for-password-sharing-and-customers-arent-happy\">Netflix started testing a fee for password sharing<\/a> in three countries (Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru), which unsurprisingly made people upset.
