The 53-year-old Toronto resident added, \u201c[Using chemotherapy cream] is like pouring acid on your skin and your skin bubbling up. That\u2019s exactly what it feels like and that\u2019s exactly what it looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stark uses the cream to treat her basal cell carcinoma, one of the most common forms of skin cancer <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/skin-cancer-information\/basal-cell-carcinoma\/\">with 3.6 million people getting diagnosed annually in the US alone.<\/a> While <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly not fatal, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/basal-cell-carcinoma\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20354187\">the condition often recurs even after successful treatment<\/a>, and can increase the risk of developing other types of skin cancer.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p>The mother of four\u2019s epidermal ordeal began in 2008, when she noticed a colorless, \u201cdime-sized indentation\u201d with a scaly texture on her forehead.<\/p>\n<p>Stark initially dismissed the blemish as eczema as she was prone to the condition and \u201chad very dry skin,\u201d SWNS reported.<\/p>\n<p>However, the woman reportedly grew concerned after her \u201cforehead became indented with that lesion\u201d several months later. We need to set up a date for surgery to remove that.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very scary because I didn\u2019t know what type of cancer I had,\u201d exclaimed Stark, adding that she was so upset by the doc\u2019s \u201clack of empathy\u201d that she \u201cstarted to cry.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Hoping to land someone with more insight \u2014 and perhaps better bedside manner \u2014 Stark changed doctors in 2009. The following year, she underwent a procedure to have the lesion removed. <\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, that didn\u2019t alleviate the issue: The cancer has since metastasized all over the surface of Stark\u2019s body, including her neck, arm and chest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had many, many lesions over the years, I couldn\u2019t count the amount,\u201d she said. \u201cI have the skin of a 70 or 80-year-old woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, Stark has undergone a staggering 30 skin surgeries \u2014 like a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> of whack-a-mole.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/a-mum-diagnosed-826771.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"&quot;I've had many many lesions over the years, I couldn't count the amount,&quot; rued the cancer-ravaged patient. &quot;I have the skin of a 70 or 80-year-old woman.&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-22213593\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/a-mum-diagnosed-826771.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/a-mum-diagnosed-826771.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/a-mum-diagnosed-826771.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>\u201cI\u2019ve had many, many lesions over the years, I couldn\u2019t count the amount,\u201d rued the cancer-ravaged patient. \u201cI have the skin of a 70 or 80-year-old woman.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Kennedy News and Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The unfortunate gal attributes her plight to the fact that \u201cI never protected my skin.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put sunscreen on my children, however I didn\u2019t wear sunscreen at all,\u201d she explained. \u201cI had sunscreen in my home but it wasn\u2019t something that I thought about every morning before I went outside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stark added, \u201cI didn\u2019t wear a hat or stand under an umbrella, and that\u2019s exactly why I have this much cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In order to safeguard her sensitive skin, the mother must now wear sunscreen no matter what the weather, and can never expose herself to direct sunlight again.<\/p>\n<p>Stark was also prescribed the aforementioned chemotherapy cream in 2012, which she analogized to \u201ca poison for cancerous cells.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly it and it only picks up the cancerous or precancerous cells and there will be red, ugly scabbing skin,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, one of the side effects was that it made her \u201cskin very hot and incredibly itchy\u201d as if there were \u201cred, burning ants running on your skin,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p>And the pain wasn\u2019t just physical: \u201cIt makes my skin look like I\u2019ve had a very bad accident,\u201d explained Stark. \u201cI have had people walk away from me. It used to hurt my feelings and I used to feel shunned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cPeople would point at me and just not understand if I had a disease that was contagious, or someone had violently hurt me or I\u2019d been in a car accident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stark now hopes to use her ordeal as a cautionary tale highlighting the perils of shunning sunscreen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want people to understand that small behaviors that they can incorporate into their routine can stop this from happening,\u201d said Stark, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@honourestark\">who frequently posts sunscreen PSAs on TikTok<\/a>. \u201cSo you wear a hat. I see babies outside in the bright sun without a hat on and I think to myself, \u2018that frightens me,\u2019 because of what their future may look like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cI really enjoy spreading awareness because this type of cancer you can protect yourself and your children at any time and any age from getting it.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
