According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plainsite.org\/documents\/28jcs0\/california-dmv-tesla-robotaxi--fsd-notes\/\">a leaked comment by CJ Moore<\/a>, Tesla\u2019s director of Autopilot software, Level 5 autonomy remained a distant prospect<\/span><span class=\"s1\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cElon\u2019s [claim] does not match engineering reality per CJ,\u201d the California Department of Motor Vehicles said about a call with Tesla officials. \u201cTesla is at Level 2 currently.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">But this feedback didn\u2019t dull Musk\u2019s optimism. In 2019, Musk made an even braver prediction for autonomous vehicles: Tesla would have 1 million \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/04\/22\/elon-musk-says-tesla-robotaxis-will-hit-the-market-next-year.html\"><span class=\"s2\">robotaxis<\/span><\/a>\u201d on the road in 2020.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Musk envisioned Tesla owners renting out their cars for rides, with the company taking a cut of the revenue. When his deadline arrived, daily case counts had surpassed 20,000. Almost two years later, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/us-reports-least-11-mln-covid-cases-day-shattering-global-record-2022-01-11\/\">the US reported<\/a> a daily record of 1.35 million new infections.<\/p>\n<p>Musk has consistently downplayed the dangers of the virus and the need for restrictions \u2014 particularly when the rules affect Tesla\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He did, however, generously offer <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the company\u2019s employees permission to stay home if they didn\u2019t feel safe in the factory. The simian was filmed playing Pong with its mind in exchange for a banana smoothie. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Scientists <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk-neuralink-not-first-scientists-monkey-control-computer-mind-2021-4\">pointed out<\/a> that monkeys have been playing video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s with their minds for almost 20 years. The only demo of the humanoid so far has been someone dancing in a bodysuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The focus on Optimus could galvanize Tesla investors, staff, and customers, but there\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> a risk that Musk\u2019s confidence has an adverse effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> After all, his hype machine tends to go into overdrive when normal business is struggling \u2014 which <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/4482722-tesla-seems-to-be-shifting-focus-from-new-evs\">analysts believe is the case at Tesla<\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>His unrealistic goals have also reportedly caused problems at Neuralink.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere was this top-down dissatisfaction with the pace of progress even though we were moving at unprecedented speeds,\u201d a former employee <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/01\/29\/neuralink-elon-musk-brain-implant-startup-high-pressure-workplace\/\">told Fortune<\/a>. \u201cStill Elon was not satisfied.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">That doesn\u2019t mean Musk should stop dreaming big.
