Mark Messier was the team\u2019s most recent winner in 1992, with goalie Henrik Lundqvist a finalist in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s obviously very well-deserved. He\u2019s been our best player all year,\u201d teammate Chris Kreider said Thursday of Shesterkin. \u201cWe\u2019re certainly not in the position we are now without him. He kept us in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s. It\u2019s a wealth of riches, over the course of my time here, we\u2019ve been lucky enough to have pretty dominant goaltending, so it\u2019s what I\u2019m used to at this point. But this season has been otherworldly, and he\u2019s been amazing as a teammate and as a competitor and as a person. We\u2019re really lucky to have him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the past 60 years, just four goalies \u2014 Jacques Plante (1962), Dominik Hasek (1997 and 1998), Jose Theodore (2002) and Carey Price (2015) \u2014 have won the award. McDavid led the NHL with 123 points for the Oilers this season, and Matthews scored a league-best 60 goals for the Maple Leafs.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"200\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/playlist.megaphone.fm\/?e=NYPH2186312502&amp;light=true\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old Shesterkin, also the favorite to win the Vezina Trophy as the league\u2019s top goalie, wasn\u2019t made available to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> after Thursday\u2019s practice. He stopped 29 shots in a 5-3 win the previous night at the Garden to force Game 6 on Friday in Pittsburgh, where he was pulled in each of the Rangers\u2019 previous two losses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously he\u2019s had an outstanding season. It was great to see him get that honor as one of the three candidates,\u201d Gallant said. \u201cThey\u2019re all great [players], but he wants to win playoff games right now. That\u2019s the biggest thing on his agenda. But it\u2019s an outstanding season. We\u2019re all very proud of him, and it\u2019s well-deserved for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<p>Gallant said there is no reason for the Rangers to \u201cworry about the past\u201d after suffering road losses by a 14-6 aggregate in Game 3 and Game 4 at PPG Paints Arena. As defenseman Jacob Trouba noted: \u201cWe know what to expect going into it now, but we have to play better than we did those two games there, we know that. We want to play the way we played [Wednesday] night.
