Trading in the stock was halted multiple times in the first hour.<\/p>\n<p>In midday trading,\u00a0Beyond\u00a0Meat\u00a0was up less than 1%.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond\u00a0Meat\u00a0has seen its fortunes plummet in recent quarters as it battled increasing competition and surging inflation that has led Wall Street to fret over the possibility of the company needing more cash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve got over $700 million in cash so they\u2019re not going bankrupt. The stock is down 87% from its high and I think people are saying at this level maybe I give it a shot,\u201d Thomas Hayes chairman Great Hill Capital in New York said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/beyond-meat-stock1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Beyond Meat product\" class=\"wp-image-22242328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/beyond-meat-stock1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/beyond-meat-stock1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/beyond-meat-stock1.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The plant-based meat pioneer diversified its product range in the first quarter.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s got enough margin of safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>In the first quarter, cash used for operations surged to $165 million from about $31 million a year ago, as the plant-based\u00a0meat\u00a0pioneer diversified its product range.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeyond\u00a0Meat\u2019s cost structure may be out of whack, and cash may run out by the end of next year,\u201d JP Morgan\u2019s Ken Goldman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worry that management\u2019s outlook is a bit out of balance with current realities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer Ethan Brown sought to address the concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t take this quarter\u2019s cash consumption and then just kind of play it out and assume that we\u2019re out of cash based on that,\u201d he said, adding the company was taking \u201cseveral measures\u201d to reduce expenses.<\/p>\n<p>So far this year, the stock is down about 60%.<\/p>\n<p>About 42.1% of\u00a0Beyond\u00a0Meat\u2019s free float were in short position as of May 9, according to Ortex data, just off of an all-time high of 42.8% from last week.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
