Kelly\u2019s music shortly after its release. On the track \u201cWe Cry Together,\u201d Kendrick and Taylour Paige are having a fictional argument in which Paige says, \u201cYou the reason Harvey Weinstein had to see his conclusion\/You the reason R. Kelly can\u2019t recognize that he\u2019s abusive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kendrick fires back, \u201cMan, shut the fuck up, we all know you still playin\u2019 his music\/Said I\u2019m tired of these emotional-ass, ungrateful-ass bitches\/Fake innocent, fake feminist, stop pretendin\u2019\/Y\u2019all sentiments ain\u2019t realer than what you defendin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The debate kicked into high gear after someone tweeted, \u201cI wish y\u2019all would stop saying everybody listens to R. Kelly music secretly like no we don\u2019t. I promise you the music isn\u2019t that good.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I wish y\u2019all would stop saying everybody listens to R. kelly music secretly like no we don\u2019t \ud83d\ude2d\ud83d\ude2d\ud83d\ude2d i promise you the music isn\u2019t that good<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u200f\u064b (@zayoIogy) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zayoIogy\/status\/1524974589461336068?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The reactions quickly poured in, with many defending R. Kelly\u2019s discography and pointing to numerous solo hits such as \u201cIgnition (Remix),\u201d \u201cBump n\u2019 Grind,\u201d \u201cStep in the Name of Love\u201d and \u201cI Believe I Can Fly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some people also noted he\u2019s also produced big songs for a laundry list of artists, including\u00a0Aaliyah, B2K, Diddy, Toni Braxton, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Nick Cannon, Ginuwine, The Isley Bros., Whitney Houston, Usher, Chris Brown and Justin Bieber.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/626910350?h=0071842e7b\" width=\"640\" height=\"361\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But with all of R. Kelly\u2019s success, the embattled R&amp;B singer couldn\u2019t save himself. In September 2021, Kelly was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, racketeering and sex trafficking involving five victims.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen underlying acts associated with the racketeering charge padded the case, and the jury found the government had proven 12 of those acts involving the late Aaliyah, a woman only identified as Stephanie, Jerhonda Pace, Jane and another woman named Stephanie. Three acts connected to an alleged victim named Sonja couldn\u2019t be proven, but the government only needed proof of two of the racketeering acts for a guilty charge.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly had been on trial in Brooklyn federal court for over a month on one count of racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, a federal law addressing sex trafficking.\u00a0Kelly also faces a second federal trial on charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice in Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s juggling several other outstanding criminal charges in both Cook County, Illinois and Minnesota as well. In Illinois, he was indicted by the state attorney in February 2019 for aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving four victims (three of them minors) and in Minnesota, he\u00a0charged with engaging in prostitution with a minor in August in 2019.\u00a0R. Kelly\u00a0faces a possible sentence of 10 years to life in prison.
