Clay Holmes earns increasing trust from Aaron Boone&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>CHICAGO \u2014 With the Yankees up by two runs in the top of the ninth on Sunday, Clay Holmes was warming up.<\/p>\n<p>The right-hander would have been used in a save situation if Joey Gallo hadn\u2019t hit a two-run shot in the ninth to give the Yankees some breathing room, as the team looks to be more flexible when it comes to finishing <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s \u2014 instead of relying solely on Aroldis Chapman.<\/p>\n<p>While it turned out not to be a save, Aaron Boone said no matter the situation, he would have used the right-handed Holmes, considering the top of the White Sox\u2019 lineup is filled with righties.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, though, Boone said he would trust a number of his pitchers in that spot, singling out Jonathan Loaisiga and Chad Green.<\/p>\n<p>Both of them have struggled at times this season.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/20220516holmes.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Yankees manager Aaron Boone (left) celebrates with relief pitcher Clay Holmes.\" class=\"wp-image-22279991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/20220516holmes.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/20220516holmes.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/20220516holmes.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Aaron Boone (left) celebrates with Clay Holmes after the Yankees\u2019 win.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And Chapman, while still having not blown a save this year, has battled command issues occasionally \u2014 walking nine in his last 8 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings.<\/p>\n<p>As Boone said before the game about why he went to Chapman in a tie game on the road on Saturday, they had already used Holmes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have so much confidence in all of our bullpen,\u2019\u2019 the manager said after the 5-1 victory.<\/p>\n<p>No one has been better than Holmes, acquired last season from the Pirates and extremely effective ever since.<\/p>\n<p>This year, after allowing a run on three hits in his first <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance, Holmes has given up just nine hits, a pair of walks and hit a batter \u2014 while striking out 18 \u2014 in 17 \u00b2\/\u2083 shutout innings over his last 17 appearances.<\/p>\n<p>Holmes also has been durable. His 18 \u00b9\/\u2083 innings out of the bullpen are second only to long-man Michael King on the team.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Boone said Ben Rortvedt, whom the Yankees acquired in a trade from the Twins along with Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, is expected to see team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad this week and could need surgery on his knee.<\/p>\n<p>Rortvedt was dealing with a strained oblique when the trade occurred and after recovering from that injury, felt something in his knee while catching in Tampa, leading to another shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees are still rolling with Jose Trevino and Kyle Higashioka and it\u2019s unclear where Rortvedt would fit into the team\u2019s plans if all three were healthy \u2014 other than organizational depth.<\/p>\n<p>Domingo German (shoulder) is scheduled to begin throwing live batting practice this week and will be built up as a starter. With a minor league option remaining, German could go to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trip<\/a>le-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre when he\u2019s ready.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<p>The Yankees didn\u2019t steal any bases in Sunday\u2019s win, but swiped three on Saturday, all in the final two innings of the one-run game.<\/p>\n<p>Boone said he values that kind of play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could have won us the game,\u2019\u2019 Boone said.<\/p>\n<p>The final steal came from Kiner-Falefa, who was then thrown out when he ill-advisedly tried to advance to third on Higashioka\u2019s sacrifice fly that scored Gallo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was something to learn from,\u2019\u2019 Boone said. \u201cWe don\u2019t want Isiah to lose his aggressiveness.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
