People, meanwhile, faces getting the ax despite claiming the largest audience of any US magazine for nearly a decade until 2018, when it surrendered the title to AARP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a goner,\u201d one well-placed source said of People\u2019s weekly edition. The source added that execs are instead mulling monthly or quarterly editions, as well as special-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>d issues which carry a much higher cover price.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\">\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe new editor doesn\u2019t know what she\u2019s doing. Vaccariello, who held top jobs at Real Simple, Parents, Reader\u2019s Digest and Every Day with Rachael Ray, is filling the magazine with \u201csoft stories,\u201d a source said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new editor doesn\u2019t know what she\u2019s doing. Staff in the editorial meetings are texting each other and rolling their eyes when she talks,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiz is a very talented editor but she\u2019s not an entertainment editor,\u201d said another insider, who explained that Vaccariello doesn\u2019t have entertainment \u201ccontacts\u201d or a sense of what sells celebrity news magazines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe didn\u2019t know who Channing Tatum was!\u201d said the source. <\/p>\n<p>Insiders cited a recent incident in which People staffers pushed to get Jada Pinkett-Smith for a recent cover of the magazine after her husband Will Smith slapped co<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n Chris Rock onstage at the Academy Awards over Rock\u2019s joke about her alopecia. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p>The incident rocked the entertainment industry and grabbed headlines worldwide, but Vaccariello shot it down and instead opted to stick with the current cover star, Bindi Irwin, the daughter of the late \u201cCrocodile Hunter\u201d Steve Irwin.<\/p>\n<p>That issue is currently on newsstands, and while it is too early to see how it will sell, The Post has learned that People\u2019s newsstand numbers have taken a nosedive since Wakeford was let go in February.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told The Post that under Wakeford, People had been selling more than 200,000 copies at the newsstand a week. Insiders said they are now focused on a litany of problems that have nothing to do with People\u2019s editor change-up. Those include cratering advertising revenue and lower circulation, rising postage rates and a paper shortage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe IAC people are not nice. Barry Diller is not nice,\u201d said a source, who noted that new ownership \u201cdoesn\u2019t understand\u201d print magazines, all they want to do is \u201cmake money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company also closed PeopleTV, the glossy\u2019s struggling broadcast TV show, as exclusively reported by The Post.<\/p>\n<p>The source added that there has been a jarring clash between the corporate cultures of Des Moines, Iowa-based Meredith and Diller\u2019s IAC, which is headquartered in New York\u2019s trendy Meatpacking District. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Meredith people show up to meetings in Crocs. Their offices have wicker furniture,\u201d the source said. \u201cYou cannot turn up to Barry Diller\u2019s Frank Gehry-designed spaceship in Crocs. The source said advertising has slumped to about $125 million a year in print with digital advertising bringing in another $125 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, according to People\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dotdashmeredith.com\/brands\/entertainment\/people\">media kit,<\/a>\u00a0the brand has 118 million consumers across print, digital and social media.<\/p>\n<p>Employees began buzzing about the potential demise of People when a handful of publishing and marketing execs left the company after DotDash took the helm. They included People group publisher Carery Witmer and People magazine publisher Cece Ryan, both of whom focused on selling print and digital advertising.<\/p>\n<p>Their departures signaled to many that Dotdash may be following a similar playbook for People as it has with other Meredith publications. He also said the move would result in about 200 job cuts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have said from the beginning, buying Meredith was about buying brands, not magazines or websites,\u201d Vogel said in his note. \u201cIt is not news to anyone that there has been a pronounced shift in readership and advertising from print to digital, and as a result, for a few important brands, print is no longer serving the brand\u2019s core purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the pandemic, the pullback in print readership and advertising has been more pronounced than ever.
