You can probably carry a device around and still get high-speed access to the internet. But when it misbehaves, fixing Wi-Fi configuration errors on Windows can be a pain. Here are some things you should try.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Restart_Your_Computer_and_Router\"><\/span>Restart Your Computer and Router<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cHave you tried turning it off and back on again\u201d is the biggest cliche in tech, and for good reason \u2014 restarting a computer will often solve a whole slew of problems. In this case, you\u2019ll need to restart both your router and your PC.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Combined router and modem units are common now. They\u2019re the standard hardware you get from your internet service provider (ISP) \u2014 if you don\u2019t have a dedicated router, just restart the combo unit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Locate your router (or combo unit) and unplug it for a minimum of 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Be sure not to accidentally unplug any Ethernet, fiber, or coaxial connections while you\u2019re fiddling with the power.<\/p>\n<p>Next, you need to restart your computer. Try forcing your computer to reacquire a new IP address from your router. You\u2019ll need to launch an elevated PowerShell.<\/p>\n<p>Click the Start button, type \u201cpowershell\u201d into the search bar, and then click \u201cRun as Administrator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-804962\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/click-run-as-administrator.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"403\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Type the following two commands into Powershell:<\/p>\n<p><code>ipconfig \/release<\/code><\/p>\n<p><code>ipconfig \/renew<\/code><\/p>\n<p>After you run each command you\u2019ll see a bunch of text <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear relating to different network adapters. Every computer will be different, depending on what hardware is present. The <code>ipconfig \/renew<\/code> command might take 10, 20, or even 30 seconds to fully run, so don\u2019t panic if it just sits there for a bit before you start seeing things pop up in PowerShell.<\/p>\n<p>Try your connection again.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reset_TCPIP_Stack\"><\/span>Reset TCP\/IP Stack<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol, most often referred to as TCP\/IP, handles how information is broken into packets and then labeled for delivery. It is critical for most modern Internet traffic, and when something gets corrupted or otherwise messed up, it can cause connection issues.<\/p>\n<p>Launch PowerShell as Administrator, then type the following command into the window to reset the TCP\/IP stack.<\/p>\n<p><code>netsh int ip reset<\/code><\/p>\n<p>There will be a bunch of \u201cResetting, OK!\u201d lines in the PowerShell Window if everything went correctly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-805144\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/netsh-success-reset-1.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"A successful reset will result in a bunch of &quot;Resetting, OK!&quot; lines displaying.\" width=\"650\" height=\"391\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Restart your PC, then check if the error is still happening.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reset_WinSock\"><\/span>Reset WinSock<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>WinSock is another part of Windows that allows your PC to communicate with devices on the Internet. WinSock can be responsible for network (including Wi-Fi) errors, and a WinSock reset only takes a few seconds.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> It is possible resetting WinSock will cause problems with some programs that modify the WinSock Catalog. If you have problems with an application after the reset, but it fixes your Wi-Fi error, just reinstall the program. It should fix the program\u2019s issue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fire up an elevated Command Prompt or PowerShell, then type <code> netsh winsock reset<\/code> into the window.<\/p>\n<p>You will see \u201cSuccessfully Reset the WinSock Catalog.\u201d After you run the command, restart your computer and try your Wi-Fi again.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Adjust_Your_PCs_Network_Settings_and_Drivers\"><\/span>Adjust Your PC\u2019s Network Settings and Drivers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Set_Automatic_DHCP\"><\/span>Set Automatic DHCP<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Your PC will be set to automatically acquire an IP address unless you manually changed it at some point.
