Madison Cawthorn.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old right-wing firebrand was beaten by North Carolina state Sen. Chuck Edwards in Tuesday\u2019s Republican primary contest for the right to represent the solid red 11th Congressional District.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards topped the embattled Cawthorn by a razor-thin margin Tuesday with 33.5% of the vote over Cawthorn\u2019s 31.6% with about 99% of the votes tallied. <\/p>\n<p>Edwards, who called himself a Washington outsider, cleared the 30% threshold needed to avoid a July runoff. <\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn had drawn the ire of his fellow Republicans over several controversial statements \u2014 including claims that lawmakers had invited him to orgies and snorted cocaine in front of him.<\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn was viewed as a rising star in the GOP when he won the election in 2020 to replace then-Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, but a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of public missteps have dogged his first term in office.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Cawthorn called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a \u201cthug\u201d in charge of an \u201cincredibly evil\u201d government. The lawmaker was also twice arrested trying to carry a gun on an airplane and has been accused by a former aide of denying her emergency leave after her husband suffered a heart attack.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/Madison-Cawthorn2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Rep. Madison Cawthorn was criticized for his controversial comments and multiple arrests.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP Photo\/Chris Seward, File<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But what really outraged Cawthorn\u2019s Capitol Hill colleagues was comments he made on a podcast in late March when he likened Congress to the fictional series \u201cHouse of Cards.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe sexual perversion that goes on in Washington, I mean, being kind of a young guy in Washington, where the average age is probably 60 or 70 \u2014 [you] look at all these people, a lot of them that I\u2019ve looked up to through my life \u2026 Then all of a sudden you get invited. \u2018We\u2019re going to have a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018What did you just ask me to come to?\u2019 And then you realize they\u2019re asking you to come to an orgy,\u201d he said, later adding: \u201cYou watch them do a bump of cocaine right in front of you, and it\u2019s like, \u2018This is wild.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That earned Cawthorn a scolding from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who told reporters the North Carolinian had \u201clost my trust\u201d and would \u201chave to earn it back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One Republican who stuck by Cawthorn was former President Donald Trump, who issued a special <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eal Tuesday on his Truth <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Madison was first elected to Congress, he did a great job,\u201d the 45th president wrote. \u201cRecently, he made some foolish mistakes, which I don\u2019t believe he\u2019ll make again \u2026 let\u2019s give Madison a second chance.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
