Here\u2019s how to check, and how to make sure it doesn\u2019t happen in the future.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clear_Out_Your_Old_Podcasts\"><\/span>Clear Out Your Old Podcasts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you visit Settings &gt; <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> &gt; Storage on your iPhone or iPad, you\u2019ll see a breakdown of how your device is using available space. This includes categories like Apps, Photos, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a>. The system doesn\u2019t distinguish between podcasts or offline music, it uses the same \u201cMedia\u201d label for both.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-805961\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/iphone_storage.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Analyze iPhone storage\" width=\"650\" height=\"338\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You can scroll down the list on this page to see which apps are using up your free space, including the Podcasts app. Tap on it and at the bottom of the page, you\u2019ll see which shows have been downloaded and how much space they are consuming.<\/p>\n<p>You can clear them out by tapping the \u201cEdit\u201d button and then tapping the red circle followed by \u201cDelete\u201d next to a show. You\u2019ll see a small round \u201cdownward arrow\u201d icon next to any episodes that are currently downloaded. Use the ellipsis \u201c\u2026\u201d icon next to each episode to access the \u201cRemove Download\u201d option to remove it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Stop_Podcasts_Wasting_Storage_Space\"><\/span>How to Stop Podcasts Wasting Storage Space<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The best way to prevent Podcasts from eating your free space is to set limits on downloads. Apple added better controls for this with iOS 15.5, so make sure your iPhone or iPad is updated to the latest version under Settings &gt; General &gt; Software Update before you proceed.<\/p>\n<p>Open up the Podcasts app and use the Library tab to select a podcast you\u2019re currently subscribed to. Hit the ellipsis \u201c\u2026\u201d button in the top-right corner of the screen and select \u201cSettings\u201d from the menu that appears.<\/p>\n<p>Tap on the \u201cAutomatically Download\u201d option and choose how many podcast episodes you would like to keep on your device at any one time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-805963\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/automatically_download_podcasts.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Automatically Download podcast episodes setting\" width=\"650\" height=\"477\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Older episodes will be automatically removed when they go beyond the threshold you have set, but podcasts you have manually downloaded won\u2019t be touched.<\/p>\n<p>You can also turn on the \u201cRemove Played Downloads\u201d setting, which automatically removes older podcasts you have already listened to. Be aware that if you stop the podcast before it completes (by a few minutes, even) it won\u2019t be removed and you\u2019ll have to do this manually.
