York University\u2019s 2022 commencement ceremony the hottest ticket in town on Wednesday when she rocked the podium at Yankee Stadium to address the graduating class.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old singer-songwriter was the guest of honor wearing a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/05\/18\/taylor-swift-wears-first-cap-and-gown-at-nyu-graduation\/?_ga=2.261585225.573621629.1652883147-1225907685.1647438568\">purple robe and black velvet <\/a>cap punctuated with her signature red lip, accepting an honorary fine arts doctorate and sharing 20 minutes of pop-star wisdom. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me just say: Welcome to New York, it\u2019s been waiting for you,\u201d Swift kicked off the address with a smirk and lyrics from her 2014 hit, joking that the last time she was in a stadium \u201cthis size I was dancing in heels and wearing a glittery leotard.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m \u2026 90% sure the main reason I\u2019m here is because I have a song called \u201822,\u2019\u201d she quipped, lamenting on how she \u201cnever got the normal college experience, per se,\u201d though she did film her music video \u201cLove Story\u201d in a college dorm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I really can\u2019t complain \u2026 because you went to toxic relationship to make room for the new chapters while learning to \u201clive alongside cringe.\u201d (Jake Gyllenhaal might question how successfully Swift has done this in her own life.) <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter how hard you try to avoid being cringe, you will look back on your life and cringe retrospectively. This has not been my experience. My mistakes lead to the best things in my life. And being embarrassed when you mess up, it\u2019s part of the human experience,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Swift went on to jab her critics, noting \u201cI was a teenager at a time when our society was absolutely obsessed with the idea of having perfect young female role models,\u201d and\u00a0 \u201chaving the world treat my love life like a spectator sport.\u201d She spoke about the time she was \u201ccanceled,\u201d and living life \u201cthrough a lens of perfectionism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She concluded: \u201cI leave you with this: We are led by our gut instincts, our intuition, our desires and fears, our scars and our dreams. And you will screw it up sometimes. So will I.
