rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le executive who quit over the company\u2019s strict return-to-office policy is joining Google just weeks later, according to a report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ian Goodfellow \u2014 who worked as Apple\u2019s director of machine learning until he resigned in early May \u2014 is joining Google\u2019s DeepMind division as a contributor, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-05-17\/ian-goodfellow-former-apple-director-of-machine-learning-to-join-deepmind\">Bloomberg reported<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DeepMind uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve Google products.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> comes as Apple pushes virtually all corporate employees back into the office for three days per week, though the company is currently requiring just two days per week amid an uptick in coronavirus cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Google, meanwhile, also wants many employees back three days per week, but is letting certain employees work fully remotely \u2014 a policy that presumably helped woo Goodfellow.<\/p>\n<p>When Goodfellow announced his departure from Apple, he told colleagues in a goodbye note that CEO Tim Cook\u2019s strict return-to-office push had driven him out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe strongly that more flexibility would have been the best policy for my team,\u201d Goodfellow wrote,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZoeSchiffer\/status\/1523017143939309568\">according<\/a>\u00a0to Verge reporter Zoe Schiffer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Apple employees on corporate gossip site Blind have attacked the company\u2019s return-to-office policy for months, with one speculating after Goodfellow\u2019s departure that Apple is using the pilot as a stepping stone to 5 days back in office,\u201d the Apple employee wrote on Blind, which verifies employment through corporate email addresses. \u201cIan probably got inside scoop that this is coming and left.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to tech talent manager Michael Solomon, most bosses prefer workers who are eager to get back into the office \u2014 but highly desirable candidates like Goodfellow have the power to demand flexibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf all things are equal, the person in the office might have an advantage \u2014 but if you\u2019re a top performer, I don\u2019t think it makes a bit of difference,\u201d Solomon told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" firms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> and Instagram parent Meta is letting many employees work remotely forever, with the caveat that those who ditch high-cost cities like New York and San Francisco for cheaper locales may have to take pay cuts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amazon, meanwhile, is letting individual managers decide how many days their teams must work in person.\u00a0\n
