center_align\">\n<p>            Legendary composer and film scorer Ev\u00e1ngelos Odyss\u00e9as Papathanass\u00edou, better known as Vangelis, has passed away, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-vangelis-obituary\/vangelis-composer-of-chariots-of-fire-score-dies-at-79-idUSKCN2N51L8\/\">Reuters reports<\/a>, citing an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amna.gr\/home\/article\/647982\/Pethane-o-Baggelis-Papathanasiou\">obituary<\/a> from the Athens-Macedonian <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> Agency. According to the Greek paper of record, the news was announced by his legal representation. \u201cIt is with great sadness that we announce that the great Greek Vangelis Papathanassiou passed away late at night on Tuesday, May 17,\u201d the announcement reads, translated from the original Greek.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Born in 1943, Vangelis launched his musical career in the &#8217;60s, playing keyboards and flute \u2014 among other instruments \u2014 in Greek pop bands including <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=M5mqFl-PWz8&amp;ab_channel=%CE%95%CE%BB%CE%BB%CE%B7%CE%BD%CE%B9%CE%BA%CF%8C%CE%A4%CF%81%CE%B1%CE%B3%CE%BF%CF%8D%CE%B4%CE%B9\">The Forminx<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3KCbqhJt16k&amp;ab_channel=Aphrodite%27sChild\">Aphrodite&#8217;s Child<\/a>. Before the latter, remarkably successful group disbanded in 1972, he&#8217;d scored his first film: a French nature doc titled <i>L\u2019Apocalypse des animaux<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>            Vangelis was quickly recognized as an early luminary of popular electronic music. He is best known for his work in Hollywood, particularly the scores for <i>Chariots of Fire<\/i> (1981), for which he won Best Original Score at the 1982 Academy Awards, and Ridley Scott&#8217;s <i><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ccJJ0uxigVA&amp;t=20s&amp;ab_channel=HDFilmTributes\">Blade Runner<\/a><\/i> (1982). The latter score&#8217;s influence is event in nearly every sci-fi movie released since. Other notable projects include <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rKqLAVyRaXw&amp;ab_channel=VangelisVEVO\">Jon &amp; Vangelis<\/a>, a partnership with Yes&#8217; lead singer Jon Anderson; the music for Carl Sagan&#8217;s thirteen-part PBS <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> <i><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JE1H5FymBaw&amp;ab_channel=VangelisVEVO\">Cosmos: A Personal Voyage<\/a><\/i>; and the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pcbGxT7nG60&amp;ab_channel=BetoSilvestri\">theme for the 2002 FIFA World Cup<\/a>. In total, he released 20 solo studio LP, scored 14 films, and collaborated on 17 other records over the course of his half-century-spanning career. For the whole world, the sad news states that the world music firm has lost the international Vangelis. The protagonist of electronic sound, the Oscars, the Myth and the great hits. For us Greeks, however, knowing that his second name was Odysseus, means that he began his long journey in the Roads of Fire.
