A prequel to Jared Padalecki\u2018s <em>Walker<\/em>, this new <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> stars Katherine McNamara as Cordell Walker\u2019s ancestor, Abigail Walker. Speaking at The CW upfront on May 19 in New York, McNamara told TV Insider what to expect with this new series that she and her co-stars agree is \u201cnot your mama\u2019s western.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For starters, the <em>Arrowverse<\/em> alum tells TV Insider \u201cit\u2019s great to go from playing Stephen Amell\u2018s daughter in the future, and then Jared Padalecki\u2019s great-great-great-great grandma.\u201d And like Misha Collins\u2018 <em>Gotham Knights \u2014<\/em> a new CW Batman show coming this fall \u2014 <em>Walker: Independence<\/em> is \u201csaddled with tragedy\u201d in the first moments of the pilot.<\/p>\n<p>After Abby\u2019s husband is murdered on their journey West, she makes her way to their destination \u2014 the small town of Independence, Texas \u2014 with the help of an Apache tracker named Calian (Justin Johnson Cortez). Once there, she\u2019s able to create a life for herself on her own. But she soon discovers her husband\u2019s killer was the town\u2019s sheriff, who now has the position her husband was meant to fill.<\/p>\n<p>Abby sets off on a mission to avenge her husband, recruiting con artist Hoyt Rawlins (played by Matt Barr, who also played a different Hoyt Rawlins in <em>Walker<\/em>) to help her. This new Hoyt, according to Barr, is the \u201csame DNA, same core,\u201d but \u201cdangerous.\u201d And while the show will feel familiar, McNamara says viewers will quickly learn that <em>Walker: Independence<\/em> sets itself apart from the genre with a diverse cast of actors and modern storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not the western you\u2019re expecting,\u201d she explains. \u201cEvery character is not what they seem on the surface. It has the feel and the nostalgia of a western, but it\u2019s a very modern story with characters that are going through real things that are so fascinating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Philemon Chambers (Augustus, <em>Single All the Way<\/em>) tells TV Insider <em>Walker: Independence <\/em>rewrites \u201cnarratives that have been used in westerns so often.\u201d Their Wild West showcases the true diversity of the time period, which too often is ignored in other stories in the genre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe frontier, in reality, was deeply diverse and queer, and all kinds of things,\u201d adds Katie Findlay (Kate Carver, <em>How To Get Away With Murder<\/em>). \u201cYou don\u2019t often get to see that because history is written by white guys. It\u2019s really nice to be in a cast that represents more of the reality of the landscape of a time where so many people were coming together and struggling to survive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eOVevaEv014\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eOVevaEv014<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Walker: Independence <\/em>is like <em>Bridgerton<\/em> in this way, even when it comes to music choices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The music] is not quite what <em>Bridgerton<\/em> does, but they make a choice a la <em>Bridgerton<\/em> that is very modern,\u201d McNamara reveals. As Cortez adds, \u201cit has this modern twist that\u2019s kind of rock \u2018n roll,\u201d and Barr compares the musical choices to Baz Luhrmann and Guy Ritchie films.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a little bit country, a little bit rock \u2018n roll,\u201d McNamara explains. \u201cAnd it\u2019s like Katie said, it\u2019s ultimately a story about people coming together and surviving in the best and worst of circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Walker: Independence<\/strong><\/em><strong>, Thursdays, 9\/8c, Fall 2022, The CW<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
