What gives?<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_the_%E2%80%9CReport_Junk%E2%80%9D_Feature\"><\/span>What Is the \u201cReport Junk\u201d Feature?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The \u201cReport Junk\u201d feature first <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared in iMessage with the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT208000\">iOS 8.3<\/a> update in April of 2015 alongside another useful iMessage feature, the ability to filter out iMessages sent by \u201cunknown senders,\u201d those not in your contact list.<\/p>\n<p>As for how the \u201cReport Junk\u201d function actually works, it appears in iMessage messages when the sender is not in your contact list.<\/p>\n<p>If you tap it, a box pops up that asks if you want to \u201cDelete and Report Junk\u201d\u2013tap that and the message is deleted and the iMessage is sent to Apple for review. It does not, however, block the sender so you\u2019ll need to do that separately if you wish to block them too.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Dont_I_See_The_%E2%80%9CReport_Junk%E2%80%9D_Feature_Then\"><\/span>Why Don\u2019t I See The \u201cReport Junk\u201d Feature Then?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It seems pretty straightforward so why is it, then, that so many people hardly ever see it and it doesn\u2019t appear on every spam message?<\/p>\n<p>In the previous section explaining how \u201cReport Junk\u201d works, you might have noticed we used the phrase \u201ciMessage message,\u201d and not just \u201ctext message\u201d or \u201cSMS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s because the reporting function only works for spam messages sent through the iMessage network to your iMessage account. The iMessage application is ubiquitous on iOS devices and it\u2019s easy to forget that there are two protocols at work side-by-side: iMessage and SMS.<\/p>\n<p>The short of it is that SMS is a cell network-based messaging protocol and iMessage is an internet-based service run by Apple\u2014which is why you can get iMessages on a Wi-Fi-only iPad.<\/p>\n<p>So if the spam message originates from outside the iMessage network there will never be a \u201cReport Junk\u201d tag there. Given that the vast majority of spam is SMS-based and Apple, clearly, aggressively polices spam sent through the iMessage network, it\u2019s no wonder people rarely see it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Report_Spam_Without_the_%E2%80%9CReport_Junk%E2%80%9D_Feature\"><\/span>How to Report Spam Without the \u201cReport Junk\u201d Feature<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although it\u2019s not as convenient as the \u201cReport Junk\u201d option right under the message, there is something you can do to report spam messages on the iPhone (and any other cellphone for that matter too).<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of cell carriers in the United States support spam reporting via text forwarding. You can forward the spam message to 7726 (which spells out SPAM on a traditional telephone keypad).<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll still need to manually delete the message and block the number, alas.
