Since the days of jailbreaking iPhones the term seems to now be widely been used to refer to opening your device to unofficial apps.\u00a0Some people might use other terms, too, like \u201crooting\u201d and \u201chacking\u201d to refer to the same procedure.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"justthesteps\">\n<li>In Settings, open \u201cMy Fire TV.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Choose \u201cDeveloper Options\u201d and enable the \u201cApps From Unknown Sources\u201d option.<\/li>\n<li>From the Appstore, install the Downloader app and use it to download any APK file.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You\u2019re not actually jailbreaking, rooting, or hacking your Fire TV Stick, however. All you\u2019re doing is activating an option on your Stick that allows you to load apps (in the form of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudsavvyit.com\/12544\/apk-vs-app-bundle-why-is-google-changing-androids-app-format\/\">an APK file<\/a>) from outside the official Amazon Appstore on your device.<\/p>\n<p>So if you want to install an app that\u2019s not available on the Appstore, you\u2019ll sideload it on your Fire TV Stick after \u201cjailbreaking\u201d the device.
