Ken Buck (R-Colo.) is the lead sponsor of the forthcoming House bill, while David Cicilline (D-RI) is a co-sponsor, both lawmakers\u2019 offices confirmed to The Post. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoogle is selling ads, they\u2019re buying ads, and they\u2019ve bought the auction company,\u201d Buck told The Post. \u201cAll this bill does is say you can\u2019t do all three.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Buck added that he is still in the process of gathering additional co-sponsors before the bill is introduced. <\/p>\n<p>A Senate version of the legislation, called the \u201cCompetition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act,\u201d was introduced Thursday morning by Mike Lee (R-Utah), with Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) acting as co-sponsors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/google-ad-biz-broken-04.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) is the lead sponsor of the forthcoming House bill.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to a copy of the Senate bill seen by The Post, it would <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly to publicly traded companies with $20 billion in annual advertising revenue \u2014 meaning that <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> and Instagram parent company Meta could be affected in addition to Google.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bill would also give advertising brokerages \u201cbest interest duty\u201d to their customers, similarly to how financial advisers on Wall Street are legally required to act for the sole benefit of their clients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis lack of competition in digital advertising means that monopoly rents are being imposed upon every website that is ad-supported and every company \u2014 small, medium, or large \u2014 that relies on internet advertising to grow its business,\u201d Lee said in a statement. \u201cIt is essentially a tax on thousands of American businesses, and thus a tax on millions of American consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"725\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/google-ad-biz-broken-01.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Rep. And, at a time of heightened inflation, it would handicap small businesses looking for easy and effective ways to grow online. The real issue is low-quality data brokers who threaten Americans\u2019 privacy and flood them with spammy ads.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meta declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>In the House, Buck could have trouble drumming up widespread GOP support for the bill. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who is the top Republican on the key House Judiciary Committee, has reservations about the bill, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Russell Dye, a spokesperson for Jordan and the House Judiciary Republicans, took an apparent jab at Buck\u2019s work with Cicilline in a statement to The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Jordan has concerns about working with Democrat impeachment managers who believe conservative censorship online is a myth,\u201d Dye said.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate bill was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/gop-led-legislation-would-force-breakup-of-googles-ad-business-11652969185?mod=Searchresults_pos1&amp;page=1\">first reported by the Wall Street Journal<\/a> on Thursday. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> of Buck and Cicilline\u2019s companion has not been previously been reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Post first reported in January that Cicilline and Buck were considering sponsoring a House version of an online ad market bill.\u00a0\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
