There are a few obvious (and some not-so-obvious) things that could be wrong. Let\u2019s run you through a list of troubleshooting steps to diagnose your console\u2019s issue and potentially fix it.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Turn_It_on_Manually\"><\/span>Turn It on Manually<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This may seem obvious, but it\u2019s worth eliminating any small things you may have missed.\u00a0If you usually wake your Switch using the \u201cHome\u201d button on a controller, it\u2019s possible that the controller is out of battery. If the switch is connected to a dock, the green light on the front of the cradle will light up when the console powers up. If your console isn\u2019t docked, you should either see the lock screen or a Nintendo logo indicating that the boot process is starting.<\/p>\n<p>If the Nintendo logo <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears then disappears, your Switch is probably out of battery, which brings us to our next solution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>Should You Buy a Portable Nintendo Switch Dock?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Charge_It_for_a_While\"><\/span>Charge It for a While<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If your Switch appears to be completely dead or won\u2019t boot up after displaying the Nintendo logo, you should charge it for a while. Due to the pre-charge process required by lithium-ion batteries, it can take a little while before your Switch will turn on when the battery is completely flat.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo recommends resetting the AC adapter by unplugging it from both the wall and Switch for 30-seconds, so make sure you\u2019ve done that before moving on. Next,\u00a0take the power cord out of the dock and plug it directly into the Switch via the USB-C connector at the bottom of the unit. Be aware that the console may not start even after this has been displayed, so give it some time. Periodically try turning your console on using the button at the top of the charger.<\/p>\n<p>If, after a few hours, your console isn\u2019t responsive then it\u2019s unlikely that the problem can be solved by charging.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Try_Resetting_Your_Console\"><\/span>Try Resetting Your Console<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another possibility is that your console has crashed and become completely unresponsive to input from controllers, or even the power button. While this may be an unlikely occurrence, it\u2019s worth trying to manually reset your console just to rule it out.<\/p>\n<p>You can hard reset the console by pressing and holding the power button on the top of the unit for 15 seconds, then powering the console on as normal (by pressing the power button once). Thankfully, events like this are relatively rare on the Switch.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Consider_Replacing_the_Charger\"><\/span>Consider Replacing the Charger<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If your Switch is completely unresponsive and you don\u2019t see anything appear on-screen when you connect it to your console (not even the empty battery indicator, or the Nintendo logo) then one possibility is that your charger is dead. You can also buy cheaper third-party alternatives which will do the job just fine if you\u2019re happy to forego first-party accessories.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Check_for_Damage_to_the_USB-C_Connector\"><\/span>Check for Damage to the USB-C Connector<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Your Switch may not charge correctly if your console has sustained damage to the USB-C port on the bottom of the unit. You\u2019ve tried resetting both the Switch and the AC adapter and charged it for a while with nothing appearing on the screen. You\u2019ve plugged the adapter directly into the Switch, and you\u2019ve tried a second adapter to make sure the charger isn\u2019t to blame.<\/p>\n<p>At this stage, it\u2019s probably worth contacting <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=204a528a336ede4177fff0d84a044482&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fen-americas-support.nintendo.com%2F\">Nintendo Support<\/a>\u00a0to see if your console can be inspected and repaired.\u00a0If the console is still under warranty (one year old in most jurisdictions, two years in places like Australia and the EU) then you may be able to take it back to the retailer you bought it from for a straight swap.<\/p>\n<p>If the console is no longer covered by warranty, after-market repair is your only choice. Replacing the battery in a Switch that no longer turns on may just be a waste of time that isn\u2019t worth it without further testing. If the Switch has been damaged by impact or moisture, it may be possible to fix it but you\u2019ll need to isolate exactly what\u2019s gone wrong first.<\/p>\n<p>If there are obvious signs of damage to the USB-C port at the bottom of the Switch unit then you may be able to order a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ifixit.com\/Store\/Game-Console\/Nintendo-Switch-Console-USB-C-Port\/IF378-017?o=1\">$9.99 replacement from iFixit<\/a> and solder it yourself, but you\u2019ll fare better with some experience and skill under your belt. If you\u2019re confident in your abilities you can save a lot of money by performing this sort of repair yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Like many of life\u2019s skills, there are <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> channels documenting the process of reviving dead consoles like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCfOrKQtC1tDfGf_fFVb8pYw\">TronicsFix<\/a>. While these don\u2019t necessarily act as <em>tutorials<\/em>, they prove that so-called \u201cdead\u201d consoles can be revived with the right skills and spare parts. You might find <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ifixit.com\/Device\/Nintendo_Switch\">iFixit\u2019s Nintendo Switch repair hub<\/a> to be of use if you\u2019re thinking of going the DIY route.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on what\u2019s wrong with the console, repairs from Nintendo may be costly. Consider taking the unit to a third-party repair shop that may be able to help you out, ideally one with experience in repairing consoles. If your console is still under warranty, never open it yourself or let anyone other than Nintendo attempt a repair (even if you\u2019re fairly sure the issue was caused by you).<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Your_Saves_and_Captures_May_Be_Lost\"><\/span>Your Saves and Captures May Be Lost<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you manage to repair your console, there\u2019s a chance you won\u2019t lose any data. If you have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=204a528a336ede4177fff0d84a044482&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nintendo.com%2Fswitch%2Fonline-service%2F\">Nintendo Switch Online<\/a>, many (but not all) of your saves will be stored in the cloud. Any captures that you had saved to your internal storage (not microSD card) won\u2019t be saved.<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo may offer you a refurbished unit in place of your original unit, which means you will lose everything on the internal storage not backed up to the cloud. Make sure that you remove your microSD card before you send your console in for repair.<\/p>\n<p>You may need to make a judgment over whether the cost of repairs is worth it compared with the price of a new console. When you buy a new console, you get the full set: Joy-Con, dock, power adapter, and the Switch console itself.
