ALS is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and affects as many as 30,000 in the US, with 5,000 new cases diagnosed each year, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>On the big day, April 9, 2022, Zak\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/topic\/family-and-friends\">younger brothers<\/a>\u00a0Nick and Jake helped their mom get to feet and offered her support so that she could dance with her eldest at his wedding to his longtime love, Anja D\u2019adesky.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new husband told Fox <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> Digital that he and his mom danced to the song \u201cHumble and Kind\u201d by Tim McGraw in front of a crowd of about 130 guests at Ever After Farms Blueberry Wedding Barn in Mims, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had planned it. The actual dance itself was spontaneous,\u201d Zak Poirier, 28, said during a phone interview. \u201cWe were both pretty adamant that we wanted to share a dance regardless of how long it was. By the time we got up there, we weren\u2019t really sure how it would work \u2014 but it went perfectly, and it was great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom Kathy, for her part, she felt honored that her son wanted to dance with her at his\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/lifestyle\/weddings\">wedding<\/a>, but she was still anxious ahead of that moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very nervous,\u201d she told Fox News Digital. \u201cI was not nervous about dancing with my son. And I was not nervous about my other two sons holding me up or getting me up. And that people would be watching me. And I felt like I was going to be judged. But I knew I wanted to do it, and I wasn\u2019t going to let anybody tell me I couldn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All of her nervousness went away, she said, when she began dancing with her son.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Zak Poirier, on the other hand, said he felt at ease and everything became a blur because he was so focused on the moment with his mom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was definitely a different feeling,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith a diagnosis of ALS, it\u2019s got nothing but grave news attached to it,\u201d Kathy Poirier added. \u201cBut to be in the arms of all three of my sons was just beautiful. It was just wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mother and son said they\u2019re h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y they went through with their dance plan instead of opting for a slideshow or other alternative to replace the beloved wedding tradition.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what it feels like to go viral, Zak Poirier said he appreciates all the supportive comments and messages he\u2019s received from social media users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really glad that my mom is getting the attention and recognition she deserves because, you know, she goes through this every day \u2026 People are resonating with that moment and appreciating that moment,\u201d he added. \u201cIt really speaks volumes about my mom in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kathy Poirier is happy that their viral videos have helped raise awareness for ALS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis disease \u2014 it\u2019s been over 80 years since Lou Gehrig was diagnosed and there\u2019s still no cure,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd doctors will tell you that you have three to five years to live. Don\u2019t ever believe that. Because you can fight it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cI think when you put your mind to it, you can overcome any obstacle in your way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aside from their shared dance, a favorite moment together was the mother and son <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> they took to Portugal when Zak was a high school soccer player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was able to bring someone with me and I brought my mom,\u201d he recalled. \u201cFor a whole week, it was really awesome to get to experience that with my mom and my mom alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZak was our first. He taught me how to be a mother,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a very smart, smart, little boy. Inquisitive and cockeyed and loving. And he always acted like a leader.
