Outsiders are infiltrating in greater numbers and staying longer than ever before. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s become the Hamptons 2.0,\u201d said Cutchogue Civic Association member Steve Starroff, who noted that residents feel they can no longer enjoy the fork themselves. A group of young people are seen at McCall Wines in Cutchogue.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Stefano Giovannini<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But what really gets under the skin of locals is when newcomers treat them like dimwitted bumpkins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lack of respect,\u201d Greenport firefighter Bob Corwin, 50, told The Post. \u201c[New arrivals] say they love it here, but want to change everything about the place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re also just blatantly inconsiderate, according to Corwin, whose family first settled on the fork in the 1600s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not uncommon to hear [tourists] say locals should stay of out the grocery stores on weekends,\u201d he said. Corwin told of one recent transplant who moved next to his fire house, only to start complaining about its longstanding siren soon after. An absolute nightmare. I can\u2019t make a left turn onto our main road most times,\u201d said Starroff, adding that locals now avoid the beautiful Greenport waterfront during the summer because it\u2019s become so flooded with out-of-towners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s their attitude that we shouldn\u2019t be [in Greenport] on the weekends. He\u2019s not anti-tourist or against changing with the times, but he insists that newcomers be respectful of the area. To that end, he doesn\u2019t seat large groups or allow buses on his property.<\/p>\n<p>Adding to locals\u2019 fears are a slew of three hotels \u2014 some multistory \u2014 set to go up in Southold, Mattituck, and Cutchogue, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/suffolktimes.timesreview.com\/2022\/03\/hotels-are-coming-to-southold-heres-why\/\">the Suffolk Times<\/a>.
