The clinical psychologist said the <em>Aquaman<\/em> star was \u201cgrossly exaggerating\u201d her symptoms \u2014 claiming in a test that she had 19 of the 20 hallmarks of the disorder, something Dr. Curry explained was \u201cnot typical of even somebody with the most disabling form of PTSD.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amber\u2019s team called their own expert,\u00a0<strong>Dr. Dawn Hughes<\/strong>, to refute the previous testimony. So we guess Johnny\u2019s team thought they\u2019d get the last word?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Kate Moss Tells REAL Story Behind \u2018Rumor\u2019 Johnny Depp Pushed Her Down Stairs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Curry returned this week to clarify her incendiary remarks about PTSD \u2014 and of course to rebut her counterpart\u2019s testimony. She testified that Hughes had \u201cmisrepresented the tests and results\u201d that she used to diagnose Amber with PTSD. She even remarked that simple checklists could be \u201ceasily exploited\u201d and that \u201cPTSD is the most frequently feigned and claimed diagnosis in civil court.\u201d Whoa.<\/p>\n<p>She said Dr. Hughes had testified Amber\u2019s elevation on the validity scale had indicated PTSD \u2014 but that was the opposite of how she read it:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThat scale was designed and has been tested and shown to be there to show when someone is endorsing extremely unusual items that are\u00a0<em>not<\/em> consistent with PTSD.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re looking at scores as high as Ms. Heard\u2019s and then you\u2019re not seeing indications of PTSD in the more subtle tests where she doesn\u2019t know what she\u2019s endorsing, it\u2019s good evidence that her over-endorsement on that one test is because of the reason the scale was made: to detect exaggeration and feigning of symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>OK, we think we understand. Doctors want to get an accurate diagnosis, so with questionnaires there are sort of trick questions? To prove if someone is faking? Makes sense, what with the existence of Munchausen and of course drug-seeking.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the test, Dr. Curry also noted that she personally wouldn\u2019t assess Amber as having PTSD because there was no evidence, such as \u201ca change in functioning.\u201d She described the kind of debilitating PTSD Amber claimed to have, explaining why she didn\u2019t think that\u2019s what was going on:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWere they able to keep a job? PTSD is an extremely disabling diagnosis. When a person has true PTSD, it is difficult for them to work, you\u2019ll see unemployment, job loss, it causes extreme levels of distress and impairment. There\u2019s divorce, isolation and estrangement from children, family members, extreme alcohol abuse, often a string of sudden DUIs when the person never had any before. They become home bound, they can\u2019t go to the store.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Seems severe, but then again, we\u2019re talking 19 of 20 markers \u2014 more than some of the most severe PTSD cases, as Dr. Curry noted.
