rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le erased early losses and a batch of mostly benign economic data helped assuage investor concerns of a consumer pullback that could harm the economy. <\/p>\n<p> Federal Reserve minutes released Wednesday also stoked speculation about a pause to reassess interest rate hikes later in the year. <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_are_stocks_trading\"><\/span>How are stocks trading?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      The Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        DJIA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+1.78%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose 607 points, or 1.9%, to 32,728 as the average headed for its fifth straight daily gain.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+2.13%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose 90 points, or 2.3%, to 4,069, holding above the key 4,000 level<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      Nasdaq Composite<br \/>\n        COMP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598365\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+2.82%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       was up 337 points, or 3% at 11,777.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>  Should it finish higher on Thursday, the Dow would record its longest winning streak since March. <\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_driving_the_markets\"><\/span>What\u2019s driving the markets?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>U.S. stock indexes were trading near session highs, set to build on Wednesday\u2019s gains as the minutes from the Fed\u2019s latest meeting signaled that the central bank remained on track for 50 basis-point hikes in June and July, as policy moves \u201cexpeditiously\u201d toward the projected neutral rate of interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHeading into the holiday weekend, it\u2019s a nice reprieve to see things in the green,\u201d said Northern Trust Wealth Management\u2019s Kei Sasaki, a senior portfolio manager, by phone. \u201cWe think the markets, as well as investor sentiment, maybe had a bit of a sigh of relief,\u201d Sasaki said, of the Fed minutes.<\/p>\n<p>A view also has emerged that after hikes this summer, the Fed could have more wiggle room to reassess its planned rate hikes this year, particularly if economic growth shows signs of sputtering or the labor market starts to falter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis coincides with some of the things that have been facing investors, including anxiety as some retailers report lackluster results,\u201d Sasaki said, adding that if consumer spending is slowing down, \u201cthat\u2019s when recessionary fears kick in.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, as the summer begins and the latest corporate earnings season draws to a close, there will be fewer negative catalysts to rattle markets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lack of scheduled negative <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>, although something negative could also come out of the blue,\u201d said Mohannad Aama, a longtime markets strategist and professor at Rutgers University. <\/p>\n<p>One potential risk on the horizon is Costco<br \/>\n        COST,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/201191698\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+5.31%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       which is expected to report earnings after the close on Thursday. Recent reports from rival retailers like Target<br \/>\n        TGT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207799045\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.86%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Walmart<br \/>\n        WMT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207374728\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.14%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rattled markets earlier this month.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>However, investors did see some strong news from retailers earlier as Dollar Tree<br \/>\n        DLTR,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203712248\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+20.31%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Dollar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a><br \/>\n        DG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200691429\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+14.39%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Macy\u2019s<br \/>\n        M,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/201854387\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+17.80%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rocketed higher \u2014 their shares climbing about 22%, 14% and 18% respectively \u2014 breaking a trend of softening guidance among prominent retailers. <\/p>\n<p>There was plenty of other corporate news for investors to chew over, with chip group Broadcom Inc.<br \/>\n        AVGO,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200646538\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.84%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       announcing a $61 billion deal for cloud company VMware Inc.<br \/>\n        VMW,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209864107\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.63%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       though speculation has been circulating the market for a few days. Broadcom shares and those of VMware rose about 4%. <\/p>\n<p>Shares of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> Inc. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"#phrase-company?ref=COMPANY%7CTWTR;onlineSignificance=passing-mention\" class=\"icon none\">TWTR<\/a> gained after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a regulatory filing that he would lean on equity to finance his $44 billion Twitter deal, and not a margin loan backed by shares of his electric-car maker.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Apple Inc.<br \/>\n        AAPL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202934861\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.09%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       turned higher, erasing losses from the premarket session, after a report said the iPhone maker plans to keep production of its flagship item flat this year due to industry challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Apple said it would lift hourly pay for U.S. workers to $22 an hour, up 45% from 2018, to compete in a tight labor market and amid pushes by some employees to unionize. Meanwhile, Nvidia<br \/>\n        NVDA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200467500\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+6.14%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       shares recovered from early losses following last night\u2019s softer outlook. <\/p>\n<p>But while Apple and Nvidia rebounded, other tech companies remained mired in the red. Snowflake Inc.<br \/>\n        SNOW,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/220991541\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-3.23%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       shares edged lower after the software company gave a disappointing forecast and reported cautious consumer activity, while shares of cloud computing company Nutanix Inc<br \/>\n        NTNX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207209171\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-24.18%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       tumbled 21.6% after its poor fourth-quarter outlook.<\/p>\n<p>In U.S. economic data, new U.S. jobless claims fell by 8,000 last week to 210,000, signaling that layoffs remain extremely low and the economy is still expanding despite more headwinds.
