PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 With how far and high he clobbered the ball, Gleyber Torres had plenty of time to watch it fly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees second baseman took five steps up the first-base line as he got a good look at the ball, which <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ed 438 feet, then calmly flipped his bat before starting a home run trot he has better reacquainted himself with this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Torres\u2019 latest blast was all the Yankees needed Friday night, thanks to Jameson Taillon\u2019s gem, though Matt Carpenter added another solo shot two batters later in the fourth inning of a 2-0 win over the Rays at Tropicana Field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like I crushed the ball and just enjoyed the moment,\u201d Torres said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The homer was Torres\u2019 eighth of the year \u2014 and his third this week \u2014 in his 43rd <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>. His next long ball will tie his final tally from last season, when he hit nine in 127 games, after hitting only three in 42 games during the shortened 2020 campaign. Preparing before the game, that is huge for me. Just try to be good at the plate and do damage when I get the opportunity.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Manager Aaron Boone has been encouraged by Torres\u2019 at-bats, not only because of the home runs, but also because of how consistently he is hitting the ball hard.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe home runs are going to come and go, and sometimes they happen in bunches,\u201d Boone said. \u201cI think what we\u2019ve seen to this point is just a better quality of contact throughout the season. His lower half\u2019s been better in getting himself into better and stronger positions more consistently. That\u2019s allowing him to get off some really good swings.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"200\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/playlist.megaphone.fm\/?e=NYPH5442666171&amp;light=true\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As of Friday, Torres\u2019 hard-hit percentage (a career-high 47.9) ranked in the 86th percentile across MLB. His average exit velocity (also a career-high 92.4 mph) was in the 93rd percentile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Torres also came through with his glove Friday, diving to his right to snare Mike Zunino\u2019s line drive up the middle in the sixth inning.
