{"id":455115,"date":"2022-05-30T19:20:01","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T16:20:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/how-to-avoid-injuries-this-summer\/"},"modified":"2024-04-24T14:36:40","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T11:36:40","slug":"how-to-avoid-injuries-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/how-to-avoid-injuries-this-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"#How to avoid injuries this summer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many Americans, summer is synonymous with All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These rigs are popular with adults and kids alike\u2014and injuries suffered in crashes of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atvsafety.org\/what-is-an-atv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ATVs<\/a>\u00a0and other off-highway vehicles claim about 700 lives each year in the United States. About 100,000 people are treated in the nation&#8217;s emergency rooms for injuries resulting from off-highway vehicle (OHV) use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s why the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is offering tips for safer riding as the summer of 2022 gets into gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;These vehicles are not toys and should be used only as directed,&#8221; commission chairman Alex Hoehn-Saric said in a CPSC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> release. &#8220;For their own safety, it is critical that riders younger than 16 drive only age-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate youth models, and never adult models. And they all should always drive safely and wear\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/protective+equipment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">protective equipment<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CPSC recommends getting hands-on training from a qualified instructor in an ATV Safety Institute course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OHVs include all-terrain vehicles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morisoninsurance.ca\/resource\/recreational-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recreational <\/a>off-highway vehicles and utility-terrain vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some key\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kidshealth.org\/en\/teens\/atv-safety.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">safety tips<\/a>\u00a0for their use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Never ride with more passengers than there are seats. Most ATVs are designed for a single rider.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t ride on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/public+roads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public roads<\/a>, except to cross where permitted by law. Stay off paved roads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t drink alcohol before or while driving an ATV. As with drinking and driving a car, alcohol can impair judgment and response time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always wear a helmet and other\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/protective+gear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">protective gear<\/a>, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/eye+protection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eye protection<\/a>, boots, gloves, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Riders younger than 16 years old should drive only age-appropriate youth models, never adult models.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 2016 and 2018, 2,211 people nationwide died in OHV incidents,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/s3fs-public\/2021-Report-of-Deaths-and-Injuries-Invoving-Off-Highway-Vehicles-with-more-than-Two-Wheels.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to the CPSC<\/a>. ATVs accounted for nearly three-quarters of those deaths. Nearly 300 involved children under age 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over five years, ATVs were the vehicle involved in 96% of the OHV injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Safety-Education\/Safety-Education-Centers\/ATV-Safety-Information-Center\/State-ATV-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">State laws<\/a>\u00a0governing ATVs vary widely.
