Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eals court largely threw out a similar law enacted in Florida last year.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s two-sentence decision emerged from the Supreme Court\u2019s \u201cshadow docket,\u201d which involves cases that are decided without oral arguments, and was unsigned.<\/p>\n<p>But notes naming the four dissenters revealed that the majority comprised Chief Justice John Roberts, liberal Justices Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor, and conservative Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.<\/p>\n<p>As is typical with emergency rulings, the prevailing justices didn\u2019t explain their reasoning.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/AP21113667665254.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Associate Justice Samuel Alito sits during a group photo at the Supreme Court in Washington, Friday, April 23, 2021. \" class=\"wp-image-22481611\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/AP21113667665254.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2048 2048w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/AP21113667665254.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/AP21113667665254.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/05\/AP21113667665254.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Justice Samuel Alito said the \u201claw that addresses the power of dominant social media corporations to shape public discussion.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Erin Schaff\/The New York Times via AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But Justice Samuel Alito, a conservative, wrote a nearly six-page dissent in which he said the case \u201cconcerns issues of great importance that will plainly merit this Court\u2019s review.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSocial media platforms have transformed the way people communicate with each other and obtain <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>,\u201d Alito wrote.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cAt issue is a ground-breaking Texas law that addresses the power of dominant social media corporations to shape public discussion of the important issues of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch joined in Alito\u2019s dissent. Liberal Justice Elena Kagan dissented separately without saying why.<\/p>\n<p>Content crackdowns became a hot topic in October 2020 when Twitter and Facebook took action against The Post for its exclusive coverage of Hunter Biden\u2019s infamous laptop and again after those companies and others banned then-President Donald Trump over the Jan. 6 Capitol riot by his supporters.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas law would apply to any social media platform with more than 50 million active monthly users \u2014 including Facebook Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok \u2014 from acting to \u201ccensor\u201d users based on their \u201cviewpoint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It would enable residents of the Lone Star State and anyone who does business there to go to court to have their posts restored and recover any related legal fees \u2014 but not collect money damages.<\/p>\n<p>The state attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> would also be empowered to enforce it.<\/p>\n<p>The law was signed in September by Texas Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a similar law in May 2021 but most of its provisions were ruled unconstitutional on May 24 by the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>A DeSantis spokesperson called that decision \u201cstupefying\u201d and an appeal was being considered.<\/p>\n<p><em>With Post wires<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
